Cumberland City, TN – It was cold, it was damp, but that did not stop hundreds of people from turning out for the Yellow Creek Baptist Church annual Community Easter Egg Hunt. The event was held Saturday, April 20th, 2019 at 10:00am. 260 children registered for the event.
“I was so tickled with the crowd today with the weather the way it was,” said Brother Phillip Chambers, Senior Pastor. “It was cold and rainy, but the rain held off for the Easter Egg Hunt.”
The egg hunt was divided into three parts, Pre-K, K-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade. New this year, the Pre-K field was divided into two; one for crawlers and one for toddlers. 20,000 eggs were scattered between the three fields.
There were 240 door prize tickets in each section. Each child got a ticket when they arrived so everyone had a chance for a prize.
“I appreciate all the volunteers at Yellow Creek that came out to help put this on. It takes a lot of man hours to stuff and hide 20,000 eggs, not including the setup,” commented Chambers.
Once everyone was ready, the signal was given and the kids ran out onto the field gathering eggs. In just a few minutes, all the fields were cleared and the children began opening their eggs.
After all the eggs had been opened, it was time for the tickets to be drawn to see who was lucky enough to win a price.
The prizes included bicycles, scooters, and Easter baskets. This year there were also two big family prizes, a trampoline and an above ground pool. Everyone’s tickets were put back in a hat for the drawing.
“I honestly thought that the pool would go first, but the trampoline went first,” stated Chambers. “They were really excited about it. I’m really glad they liked it.”
The smiles on everyone’s faces let you know that they had a good time at the event. This is really a great event for the community.
“It looked like everyone had a really big time today. I know the people that won the prizes sure did enjoy it,” Chambers said.
“Thank you to everyone that came out today. As long as people keep coming, we will keep doing it,” stated Chambers. “I want everyone to know that they are always welcome to worship with us at Yellow Creek Baptist Church.”
