Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On July 23rd-27th, 2019, Izzy Melvin, Austin Peay State University featured twirler, will represent the state of Tennessee at the National Collegiate Championships at the University of Notre Dame.

The national championships are a week long event and part of the larger America’s Youth on Parade event. Last year, about 2,500 twirlers participated in more than 40 competitions at the international event.

The collegiate championships are the highlight of the competition. More than 100 universities were represented last year.

You might know Melvin. She’s the one who twirls fire during halftime at Austin Peay home football games. She is featured twirler for the APSU Governors Own Marching Band.

Melvin, 18, won the national and world open three-baton championships in 2016 and the advanced three-baton Twirl Mania International Championships at Disney World the same year.

And, yes, that’s twirling three batons simultaneously (albeit not while they’re on fire).

Melvin studies graphic design and animation and is entering her sophomore year.
