Austin Peay State UniversityXiamar RichardsClarksville, TN – Xiamar Richards, a sophomore on the Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The Clarksville native won the women’s five-kilometer race, Saturday, at the Fleet Feet Sports/Earl Jacoby Memorial hosted by Alabama-Huntsville. Richards is the first Lady Gov to win an individual race since 2008, when Bertha Castillo won the same event. «Read the rest of this article»

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team has one final opportunity to tune-up with a 6:30pm, Wednesday contest at Lipscomb, before the start of Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend. The Lady Govs will begin OVC action with a 6:00pm (CT), Friday match at Eastern Kentucky followed by a 1:00pm, Saturday (CT), affair at Morehead State.

Lady Govs show grit in four-set loss to Elon

 

APSU Sports: Women’s Volleyball

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsIndianapolis, IN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team fought tooth and nail, but fell in four sets (23-25, 21-25, 29-27, 26-28) to Elon in its final match at the Butler Invitational, Saturday, at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

The first two sets saw Austin Peay (2-8) continue to battle late set woes. The Lady Govs were the first team to 20 points in both sets, but could not close out either time. Austin Peay led 21-17 in the opening set but Elon stormed back with an 8-2 run to win the set. The Lady Govs held an even larger advantage (20-15) in the second set, but Elon again responded with an impressive 10-1 run to win the set.

Lady Govs volleyball pushes Butler in three-set sweep

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsIndianapolis, IN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team pushed host Butler to the brink, but could not break through, dropping a three-set decision (25-27, 17-25, 24-26), Friday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

The opening set was a see-saw affair with Austin Peay (2-7) and Butler (4-6) exchanging the lead seven ties with 17 ties. The Lady Govs fended off two set points before succumbing on the Bulldogs third attempt, losing 27-25. Both teams posted 18 kills in the opener, Austin Peay posting just one more attack error (5-4).

Lady Govs volleyball falters late in loss to Central Michigan

 

APSU Sports: Women’s Volleyball

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsIndianapolis, IN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team faltered late in a four-set loss (19-25, 25-22, 14-25, 27-29) to Central Michigan, Friday afternoon, at the Butler Invitational.

Austin Peay (2-6) was consistent in the match’s first two sets, which were both close affairs ultimately decided by APSU’s defensive effort. Central Michigan’s (3-3) offense was left unchecked in the opening set – posting 16 kills and a .344 attack percentage – and posted a 25-19 victory.

Lady Govs Seek to Maintain Momentum at Butler Invitational

 

APSU Sports: Women’s Volleyball

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsIndianapolis, IN – After a weekend where its offense showed steady improvement, Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team will seek to maintain that momentum in its three-match stay at the Butler Invitational, Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Govs will meet Central Michigan in a 1:30pm (CT), Friday contest before facing host Butler at 5:00pm that day. Austin Peay will meet  Elon at 1:30pm, Saturday, in their final match of the tournament.

Lady Govs down East Tennessee to complete Murfreesboro stay

 

APSU Sports: Women’s Volleyball

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsMurfreesboro, TN – Slowly but surely, Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team showed improvement on offense and it paid off in the final match of the MT Blue Raider Bash with a four-set victory over East Tennessee, Saturday afternoon at Alumni Memorial Gym.

Austin Peay (2-5) conquered the two things that hampered it in the tournament’s first three matches. First, the offense found some rhythm, with double-digit kills in all four sets while running efficiently with a .262 attack percentage.

Lady Govs Continue Challenging Non-Conference Slate at Blue Raider Bash

 

APSU Sports: Women’s Volleyball

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsMurfreesboro, TN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team will make the 80-mile trip down Interstate 24 for a four-match stay at the MT Blue Raider Bash, Friday and Saturday.

Austin Peay will begin its stay at Middle Tennessee with a noon, Friday contest against Florida International at Alumni Memorial Gym. The Lady Govs then will meet Missouri in a 5:00pm contest at the Murphy Center. Saturday’s action is entirely at Alumni Memorial Gym, beginning with a noon contest against Auburn before APSU wraps up its trip with a 4:30pm outing against East Tennessee.

Lady Govs unveil 2011 Volleyball Schedule

 

APSU Women’s Volleyball

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Fresh off a season that saw it reach the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history, Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team will tackle a 2011 schedule replete with powerful programs, according to the schedule released Tuesday by first-year head coach Bill Egbert.

The Lady Govs schedule includes four teams that reached the NCAA Tournament last season – Auburn, Butler, Lipscomb and Missouri. Missouri advanced to the tournament’s third round after upsetting fifth-seeded Northern Iowa in the opening round then dispatching Northwestern in round two before falling to No. 12 seed Duke. Auburn also advanced to the tournament’s second round while Butler and Lipscomb fell in the first round.
