Lady Govs golf team earns OVC Team Academic Achievement Award for third straight year

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For a third straight year, Austin Peay State University women’s golf team has been saluted with the Ohio Valley Conference Team Academic Achievement Award.

The award is presented annually in each Conference-sponsored sport to the member institution’s team with the greatest percentage of its eligible student-athletes who achieved a 3.25 grade-point average or higher—OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.  The Lady Govs golf team had seven of its student-athletes earn such distinction. Jordan medals, Lady Govs finish sixth at OVC Outdoor Championships

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMurray, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team finished sixth at the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Saturday, at Murray State’s Roy Stewart Stadium.

Eastern Illinois’ women took home their second-straight outdoor championship with 185 points, followed closely by Southeast Missouri at 181. There was distance between second and third, as Eastern Kentucky managed 136 points and Jacksonville State was at 106.5, in third and fourth, respectively. Murray State (48), Austin Peay (44), Tennessee State (34.5), Tennessee Tech (25) and Morehead State (16) rounded out the field.

Lady Govs in seventh at Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMurray, KY –  With six events in the book at the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team is in seventh place.

Eastern Illinois is leading the pack with 74 points, while Southeast Missouri is a distant second with 53 points. Murray State (26), Eastern Kentucky (21), Tennessee Tech (16), Tennessee State (15.50), Austin Peay (13), Morehead State (8) and Jacksonville State (7.50) make up the rest of the field.

2011 Outdoor Track and Field Championships starts Friday

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – It all comes down to the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships for Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team, Friday and Saturday, hosted by Murray State at Roy Stewart Stadium.

The Lady Govs finished fourth a year ago, but look to climb in the ranks with an improved sprint crew and young distance team that has made consistent strides throughout the season. Austin Peay also has elevated its efforts in the field events, adding several throwers to an already established jump group.

Showdown on the Cumberland wraps up Lady Govs Track and Field

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team will have another chance to improve times when it hosts the Showdown on the Cumberland, 3:00pm, Friday, at Governors Stadium.

A tri-meet between Ohio Valley Conference rivals Austin Peay, Tennessee Tech and Murray State, the Showdown on the Cumberland will simulate a conference-championship type event complete with team scores. With the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships on the horizon, the Showdown will be a chance for all three teams to race against more than just the clock.

Holt, Harris earn Legends Awards; Doyle, Terry named Most Outstanding Athletes

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Two senior athletes who authored record-setting careers have been named the 2010-11 Legends Award recipients.

And two underclass athletes who led their respective programs into the postseason have been named Most Outstanding Athletes. The recipients of Austin Peay State University’s most cherished athletic awards along with the individual team honors were made Monday night at APSU’s annual Athletics banquet, held in Dave Aaron Arena.

Anticipated progress shows for Lady Govs track

Austin Peay State University GovernorsNashville, TN – Distance and throwing events highlighted Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team’s efforts at the Vanderbilt Invitational, Friday and Saturday.

“We had a good weekend,” head coach Doug Molnar said. “We went out with a business-like fashion and we took care of what we wanted to do. We tried to pick and choose our races; we didn’t run the relays and tried to focus on some individual events. In two weeks, we want to have the best seeding times as possible.”

Track and Field comes up big at final home outdoor meet

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team wrapped up its final home meet, the Austin Peay Invitational, with a number of wins along with several personal bests as well.

All-in-all, the Lady Govs were either first or second place in 10 different events, including three field events in a meet that included Belmont, Lipscomb, Western Kentucky, Bethel and Lane College.

Two Lady Govs track athletes honored for leadership during Hattie Walker Wilhoite Recognition night

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Two Austin Peay State University track and field athletes recently were honored for their leadership efforts at the recent Hattie Walker Wilhoite Recognition Program for APSU African American Women as part of Women’s History Month.

Courtney Jordan, a senior who specializes in the respective throws for the Lady Govs track team, and Ashley Carson, a sophomore sprinter and hurdler, were recognized at the annual dinner sponsored by The Wilbur N. Daniel African American Cultural Center to recognize the African American female faculty/staff for their years of service at APSU and the exceptional work of African American female student leaders.

Spring Fling track and field meet set for Saturday at Governors Stadium

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team hosts the first of its two home outdoor meets with the Spring Fling beginning 9:00am, Saturday, at Governors Stadium.

In addition to the Lady Govs, the small meet will consists of Bethel, Belmont, Vanderbilt and with some individuals sprinkled in the mix as well. The hammer throw is the first event, taking place behind Raymond C. Hand Park at 9:00am, with the jumps beginning at 10:00am, in the stadium, followed by the track events at 11:00am.
