Fort Campbell releases names of the Two 101st Airborne Division Soldiers killed in AH-64E Apache Helicopter Training Accident

 

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – At approximately 9:50pm Friday, April 6th, 2018 two Soldiers of the 101st Combat Aviation “Destiny” Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) were killed in an AH-64E Apache helicopter crash in the local training area on Fort Campbell.

The two soldiers are Chief Warrant Officer 3 Ryan Connolly and Warrant Officer James Casadona.

Chief Warrant Officer 3 Ryan Connolly, 37, was an instructor pilot in the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade. He joined the Army in 2001 and arrived at Fort Campbell in 2016.

Fort Campbell, KY – When an aircraft lands at a Forward Arming and Refueling Point (FARP), it can be refueled and reloaded with ammunition in a matter of minutes, allowing it to continue with its mission as quickly as possible.

But, FARPs don’t operate on their own.

“In logistics we’re sometimes the unsung heroes,” said Maj. Robin Eskelson the support operations officer for the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade. “We’re the ones providing the fuel, the bullets and the clothing and a lot of times we go unnoticed. [The FARP Rodeo] was a time for that to be noticed; to be understood that aircraft don’t fly without fuel.”

U.S. House Representatives visit Fort Campbell, Major General Andrew Poppas talks readiness

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – A congressional delegation visited Fort Campbell Tuesday in an effort to better understand readiness challenges the Army is facing.

House Reps. William “Mac” Thornberry, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Diane Black, chairwoman of the House Budget Committee and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee and chairman of the subcommittee on communications and technology, visited some of Fort Campbell’s facilities in need of updates.

The delegation met with Maj. Gen. Andrew P. Poppas, commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell, who discussed with them the installation’s readiness challenges.

Fort Campbell Honors Tennessee State Trooper for Heroic Actions

 

Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper saves Fort Campbell Soldier’s Life

Tennessee Highway Patrol - THPNashville, TN – The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) was very proud to have Trooper Vincent Meaker assigned to Montgomery County of the THP Nashville District honored by U.S. Army Colonel Craig Alia of Fort Campbell Kentucky.

Colonel Alia met with Trooper Meaker personally to show his appreciation for his heroic actions and duty before self that saved a Fort Campbell soldier’s life.

Trooper Meaker was patrolling I-24 in Montgomery County, February 29th, 2015 at 12:30am. During this time, he observed a pickup truck traveling east on I-24 at a very high rate of speed.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Vincent Meaker is presented the Wings of Destiny 101st Airborne certificate of appreciation for selfless-service.
