APSU Men’s Cross Country has season best runs at Greater Louisville Classic

APSU Men's Cross CountryLouisville, KY – Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s cross country team performed well at Saturday’s Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Kentucky. Each Governor who ran at UAH Chargers Open cut down on their eight-kilometer time in the Greater Louisville Classic, and the remaining Govs posted season-bests at that distance.

APSU Governors, Lady Govs Cross Country 2015 Schedule announced

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s men and women’s cross-country teams unveiled their 2015 slates, Wednesday, which are highlighted by the second Austin Peay Cross Country Festival as well as trips to the Greater Louisville Classic and the Cross-Country Only National Invitational.

The Governors and Lady Govs will open the 2015 season with three consecutive meets inside Tennessee borders. The season begins September 5th at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic hosted by Christian Brothers.

Lady Govs among large field at Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsLouisville, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team will hit the course after two weeks of rest when it travels to Kentucky for the 2011 Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic’s 11:30am, Saturday, five-kilometer race, at E.P. ‘Tom’ Sawyer State Park.

Langat leads Govs at Louisville

Austin Peay State University GovernorsLouisville, KY – As has been the case all season, junior Enock Langat led the Austin Peay men’s cross country team with a 17th-place finish in the blue race of the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic, Saturday, at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.

Austin Peay finished 25th in the 34-team blue race as Langat and sophomore Geofrey Kosgei posted the team’s only top-50 finishes in the 328-man field. The Govs finished behind a surprising Morehead State squad that finished 10th, ahead of regionally ranked Kentucky.

Lady Govs make strides at Louisville

 

APSU Women’s Cross Country

Austin Peay State University GovernorsLouisville, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team showed signs of improvement, finishing 23rd in the blue race of the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic, Saturday, at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.

The Lady Govs were 23rd out of 34 teams in the blue race, the second of three races at the event. Austin Peay finished ahead of Ohio Valley Conference foes Southeast Missouri (27th) and Morehead State (30th) which were also seeded into the blue race.

Lady Govs travel to Louisville seeking to close gap

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team will look to rebound from a sub-par performance a week ago when it competes at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic hosted by the Greater Louisville Sports Commission for the 11:45am, Saturday, five-kilometer women’s blue race at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.

Freshman Xiamar Richards rebounded from a disappointing finish at Western Kentucky to lead the Lady Govs at the Memphis Twilight, cutting more than a minute off her five-kilometer time. Freshman Kendra Kirksey also made a big move, finishing as the Lady Govs No. 2 runner while also improving her five-kilometer time by more than a minute. However, Austin Peay did not have the services of junior Janelle Avery who missed the Memphis meet, leaving a significant gap in the team’s front pack.

Govs start season’s second half at Louisville

 

APSU Men’s Cross Country

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s cross country team will continue its efforts to improve at the eight-kilometer distance when they travel to the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic hosted by the Greater Louisville Sports Commission for the 11:00am, Saturday, eight-kilometer men’s blue race at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.

Junior Enock Langat has led the Govs in each of the season’s first four races and slashed more than a minute off of his eight-kilometer time at last week’s Memphis Twilight where he finished 27th in the 264-man field. Sophomore Geofrey Kosgei has run second in each of the two previous races and slashed two minutes off his eight-kilometer time.
