Nashville SoundsMemphis, TN – The Memphis Redbirds scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the 12th inning and outlasted the Nashville Sounds, 10-9, Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park. Sunday’s win secured the series for Memphis, and gave them a five-game lead over Nashville in the American Southern Division standings.

Breyvic Valera was the hero when his base hit up the middle scored Wilfredo Tovar with the winning run with just one out in the 12th inning.

The knock came just moments after the Sounds (32-29) took a 9-8 lead on Matt Chapman’s 16th home run of the season – a solo shot in the top of the 12th that broke the tie. Chapman’s blast extended his hitting streak to a career-long 10 games.

Nashville Sounds fall to Memphis Redbirds 5-2 at First Tennessee Park

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Memphis Redbirds used a solid start from veteran right-hander Jerome Williams to top the Nashville Sounds, 5-2, in front of a sell-out crowd of 10,092 Thursday night at First Tennessee Park.

Memphis took the first two games of the series and the Thursday’s finale to take three of four from Nashville. The series loss is the first for the Sounds since May 2nd-5th against the Iowa Cubs.

The 34-year-old Williams went six innings and allowed just one run in the process. The lone run was a solo blast off the bat of Ryon Healy in the sixth inning.

Memphis Redbirds Kolton Wong smacks two homers in 7-4 win over Nashville Sounds

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Kolton Wong hit two home runs including a tenth inning solo blast to lead the Memphis Redbirds to a 7-4 win over the Nashville Sounds in front of 5,475 fans Tuesday night at First Tennessee Park.

The center fielder hit the second pitch he saw from J.B. Wendelken into The Band Box to break a 4-4 tie in extra innings.

The solo blast came just moments after the Sounds squandered a golden opportunity in the bottom of the ninth inning. With the game even at 4-4, Arismendy Alcantara sent a one-out triple into the left field corner to put the winning run 90 feet away.

Sounds Starter Daniel Mengden Tosses Seven Shutout Innings

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Sounds left fielder Andrew Lambo hit a two-out single to right field to score Jake Smolinski with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Sounds a 3-2 walk-off win before 6,031 fans Sunday afternoon at First Tennessee Park.

Smolinski sparked the two-out rally when Miguel Socolovich hit him with a pitch. With Lambo batting, he swiped second base for his third stolen base of the game. Lambo swatted a 3-2 offering from Socolovich into shallow right field and Smolinski scored just in front of the throw to the plate.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds completed their first sweep of the season with a 6-1 victory over the division-rival Iowa Cubs on Thursday evening at Greer Stadium in the finale of a four-game series.

Nashville (67-73) extended its longest winning streak of the year to five games. The Sounds — who never trailed during the entire four-game set — won 10 of their 16 games against Iowa this season, the club’s third straight double-digit win total against the I-Cubs.
