Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) senior pole vaulter Savannah Amato began her chase for history, December 1st, 2018 as she begins her senior season and the chase to become the Ohio Valley Conference’s all-time leader in pole vaulting gold medals.

Amato, from Delaware, OH, enters her final season having won the last five OVC championships in the pole vault – along with a third-place finish in the indoor championship as a freshman — tying Southeast Missouri’s Michelle Jett (2003-06) and former Gov Carrie Burggraf (2007-10) for the conference’s all-time lead in the event.

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Over the years Austin Peay State University has had several student athletes that were among the best to ever compete in the Ohio Valley Conference and current Governors track and field standout Savannah Amato continued to add to her marvelous and probable APSU Hall of Fame career, with a record-breaking performance January 20th, 2018 at the Samford Open.

Amato, a junior pole vaulter from Delaware, OH, broke the school indoor record that stood for eight years with a vault of 4.15 meters (13-7.25 feet), breaking the old mark of 4.13m set by Molly Bartkiewicz.

APSU Women's Track and FieldBirmingham, AL – Junior Savannah Amato‘s record-breaking pole vault mark highlighted Austin Peay State University track and field’s visit to the Birmingham Crossplex for the Samford Open, Saturday.

Amato’s 4.15m (13-7.25) mark not only won the pole vault handily, it bested Molly Bartkiewicz’s eight-year old school record of 4.13m and moved the Delaware, Ohio into 15th placed in the NCAA as of mark’s entering the weekend.

APSU Women's Track and Field - Austin Peay State UniversityBowling Green, KYSavannah Amato entered some rarefied air in Friday afternoon’s pole vault at the Hilltopper Relays.

The freshman from Delaware, Ohio became just the third athlete in Austin Peay history to break the 13-foot barrier in the pole vault, taking her place alongside APSU legends Carrie Burggraf and Molly Bartkiewicz with a 4.01m (13′ 1.75″) mark to place fourth in the event at the Charles M. Reuter Track and Field Complex.

Austin Peay inducts Four into APSU Hall of Fame, Saturday

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Four former Austin Peay State University athletic greats, who had great impact on their respective programs, were inducted into the APSU Athletics Hall of Fame, Saturday morning, in a breakfast ceremony in the Dunn Center front lobby.

Rowdy Hardy, the winningest pitcher in Governors baseball history and two-time Collegiate Baseball All-American selection; Stephanie Champine, a two-time all-region volleyball player and 2009 OVC Player of the Year; Carrie Burggraf, a five-time Ohio Valley Conference pole vault champion and two-time OVC Scholar Athlete, were inducted along with the late Paul Aaron, a basketball star in the late 1940s who was enshrined from the Honors category.

They became the 111th, 112th, 113th and 114th members of APSU’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Probably no one has exemplified the term student-athlete more in Austin Peay State University athletics history than Carrie Burggraf. Few have accomplished as much as Burggraf did as a track and field performer—she was a five-time OVC pole vault champion—and no one achieved what she did outside the field of competition.

And with all those accomplishments also has come induction into the APSU Athletics Hall of Fame, 9:00am, Saturday, in the Dunn Center’s front lobby.

Austin Peay State University ready to play and host OVC Outdoor Championships

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Playing host for the first time since 2001, Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team will kick off the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Friday, from Governors Stadium.

The two-day meet begins at 9:00am, Friday, with select events scheduled for competition at Edith Pettus Park.
