Baseball’s Dre Gleason named APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University baseball team senior first baseman Dre Gleason has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The O’Fallon, MO, native picked up his season’s second adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honor after hitting .533 (8-for-15) with nine RBI, two doubles and two home runs.

Gleason opened the week with a monstrous 4-for-5, seven RBI effort in the Govs 21-8 rout of Middle Tennessee, Tuesday. Each of his four base hits produced a run, including a two-run first-inning double and a two-run third-inning home run.

Season High 14 runs give APSU Softball win over Mississippi Valley Sunday

APSU Softball - Austin Peay State UniversityOxford, MS – Austin Peay State University’s softball team scored a season-high 14 runs versus Mississippi Valley, Sunday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Complex, as the Govs hammered the Devilettes 14-3, after dropping a 6-1 final to Nicholls State to open the final day of the Red & Blue Classic.

The Govs (7-7) scored in every inning versus Mississippi Valley, starting with a RBI bunt single from Carly Mattson, followed by a perfect suicide squeeze by Christiana Gable for an early 2-0 lead.

#23 Ole Miss shutsout APSU Softball Saturday, 6-0

APSU Softball - Austin Peay State UniversityOxford, MS – Saturday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Complex, Austin Peay State University’s softball team got a big day at the plate from Danielle Liermann but its wasn’t enough, as the Governors were shutout by the #23 national-ranked Ole Miss Rebels, 6-0, in Day two of the Red & Blue Classic.

The shutout was the first suffered by the Govs this season.

Lady Govs look to end losing streak at Buzz Classic

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team looks to end its recent losing streak this weekend as it participates in the 21-team Buzz Classic, hosted by Georgia Tech at the Twin Creeks Softball Complex in Woodstock, GA.

The Lady Govs (2-11) enter this weekend’s games having lost their last six contests, including all five games at the University of Mississippi Red and Blue Classic last weekend.

Late rally falls short in Lady Govs softball loss to South Alabama

Austin Peay State University GovernorsOxford, MS – Austin Peay’s softball threaten late against South Alabama, in the final day of the Red and Blue Classic hosted by the University of Mississippi, but couldn’t get the big hit it needed in a 4-1 loss to the Jaguars.

Austin Peay (2-11) was trailing 4-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning, but got its first three hitters of the inning on to lead the bases.

Saturday unkind to Lady Govs at Red and Blue Classic

Austin Peay State University GovernorsOxford, MS – Austin Peay’s softball dropped two games Saturday at the Fifth annual Red and Blue Classic, hosted by the University of Mississippi, letting a lead get away against Southeast Missouri in a 6-3 morning loss, and a 11-2 five-inning defeat to South Alabama in the afternoon contest.

Austin Peay (2-10) got off to a good start against Southeast Missouri, by taking its first lead of the classic in the bottom of the third inning on junior Amy Mills’ first home run of the season – which drove in senior Tiffany Smith, who had reached on a walk.

Lady Govs lose two at classic, including extra-inning affair against Ole Miss

Austin Peay State University GovernorsOxford, MS – Austin Peay’s softball team put a scare into Southeastern Conference member University of Mississippi on Friday afternoon, in the Fifth annual Red and Blue Classic, losing in extra innings, 4-3, after a 5-0 morning loss to Western Kentucky.

Austin Peay (2-8) trailed Ole Miss 1-0 heading into its final at bat, but junior Catie Cozart, who had a double earlier in the game, led off the seventh inning with a triple to straight away center field. She scored two outs later on a single to left field by freshman Caitlyn Anderson, tying the game 1-1.

Lady Govs softball heads to Magnolia State for Red and Blue Classic

 

APSU Women’s Softball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team travels to Oxford, MS, this Friday through Sunday, to play in the Red and Blue Classic, hosted by the University of Mississippi.

In the classic field, along with Austin Peay (2-6) and host Mississippi, will be Western Kentucky, South Alabama and Ohio Valley Conference member Southeast Missouri. Louisiana Tech also is at the Classic, but Austin Peay will not face them this weekend.

Home dates versus Lady Vols, Wildcats highlight 2011 APSU Softball Schedule

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will host Southeastern Conference members University of Tennessee and Kentucky, as well as two classics at Lady Govs Field, to highlight the 2011 schedule, head coach Casey Dickson announced on Monday.

Tennessee and Kentucky are just two of six teams the Lady Govs will play in 2011 that qualified for the 2010 NCAA Tournament field as well as being among eight scheduled teams that ranked in the top-100 in RPI last season.

“We’re excited about the schedule,” Dickson said. “It’s exciting about playing in multiple tournaments, but also in bringing teams like Tennessee and Kentucky to Clarksville so our fans can see some of the top teams in the country play.
