Tennessee Vols Basketball loses to Oregon State in NCAA Tournament, 70-56

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsIndianapolis, IN – Offensive struggles in the opening half plagued the Tennessee basketball team Friday, as it fell to Oregon State, 70-56, at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The loss ended the Volunteers’ season, while Oregon State (18-12) advances to face the winner of Oklahoma State and Liberty in Sunday’s second round.

Tennessee (18-9) was led in scoring by freshman Keon Johnson who totaled 14 points. Johnson also finished the day with six rebounds, three steals, and a pair of assists.

Tennessee’s SEC All-Freshman Team duo of Johnson and Springer led the way offensively for the Vols (18-8) with 20 and 18 points, respectively. Santiago Vescovi added 11 points with three made 3-pointers.

Tennessee Vols Basketball downs Florida 78-66 in SEC Tournament

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsNashville, TN – A year to the day after not being able to take the court in the second round of the 2020 SEC Tournament, the Tennessee basketball team used a balanced offensive effort and a single-game, school-record nine blocks from senior Yves Pons to push past Florida, 78-66, Friday at Bridgestone Arena.

The win advanced Tennessee to the SEC Tournament semifinals for the third consecutive conference tournament.

The Vols were led by a stat-sheet-stuffing performance from back-to-back SEC All-Defensive Teamer Pons, who tallied 11 points, eight rebounds, and nine blocks.

Tennessee Vols Basketball falls at LSU, 78-65

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsBaton Rouge, LA – A tough day from the field and 20-point outputs from Cam Thomas and Javonte Smart were too much for the No. 16 Tennessee men’s basketball team to overcome Saturday, as it fell to LSU, 78-65, at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

The Vols (14-5, 7-5 SEC) shot just 35 percent from the field, while the Tigers (13-6, 8-4 SEC) shot the ball at a highly efficient clip of 52 percent.

Freshman Jaden Springer led the Vols in scoring, finishing with 21 points and eclipsing the 20-point mark for the third consecutive game. Springer also logged six rebounds and a season-high seven assists with just one turnover.
