Austin Peay State University’s SGI, Tennessee State Parks set “Prescribed Fire” at Dunbar Cave

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On a clear October afternoon, 15 acres of restored native prairie at Dunbar Cave State Park in Clarksville, Tennessee, went up in flames. Smoke lifted high over city streets and neighborhoods, while community volunteers and officials with the Tennessee Division of Natural Areas cheered on a well-planned prescribed fire to help promote and enhance native prairie species.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The BAND Foundation of Washington, D.C., has continued its commitment to Austin Peay State University (APSU) through a recent gift to the APSU Foundation to benefit the Southeastern Grasslands Initiative (SGI). This contribution brings the organization’s total giving amount to date to more than $800,000.

Clarksville’s Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for September 28th, 2019

 

Tennessee State ParksClarksville, TNDunbar Cave State Park has been a State Park since 1973. The cave and its surrounding 110 acres have considerable scenic, natural and historical significance. The entrance offered shelter to prehistoric Native Americans as far back as 10,000 years.

Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs during the year. There are programs for children and adults.

The upcoming events are: Dunbar Cave – 1865!, Prairie Volunteer Workday.
