First Thursday Art Walk – February 3rd

The Downtown Clarksville Association proudly presents the First Thursday ArtWalk this THURSDAY, February 3rd, from 5:00pm TO 8:00pm

Historic Downtown Clarksville LogoYou’re invited to join the merchants of Historic Downtown Clarksville for the monthly Art Walk, on February 3rd, from 5:00pm till 8:00pm. Kendall Welsh from ARTifacts sent us this information about April’s artistic extravaganza. Participating merchants include The Austin Peay State University Downtown Gallery, The Downtown Artist Co-op, ARTifacts Emporium, The Frammaker, Hodgepodge, Ingredients, The Roxy Regional Theatre, Rogates Boutique, and Visions Metaphysical Boutique.

Austin Peay Downtown Gallery

Austin Peay Downtown Art GalleryA new exhibit of Billy Renkl’s work, “Manuscripts, Documents, Deeds of Trust: An Exhibition of Works Support by an APSU Summer Research Fellowship,” opens with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 3 at the Austin Peay Downtown Gallery. The show runs through Feb. 26.

Renkl’s collage work often features fragments of old texts and diagrams, exploring the relationship that fine art has to information graphics, as well as the nostalgia inherent in paper ephemera.

Downtown Artist Co-Op

Downtown Artist Co-OpThe DAC gallery will feature a membership show titled “Rumors of Spring”.  All DAC members have been invited to submit two to three pieces showing their interpretation of signs of the approaching spring.  Hopefully, this exhibit will help viewers break the doldrums of winter and get in the mood for the emergence of spring.

ARTifacts Emporium

ARTifacts Emporium LogoCharlotte Nelms will be demonstrating her process of pastel painting in ARTifacts on Strawberry Alley for First Thursday Artwalk.  In her process she applies numerous layers of pure color on sandpaper to achieve realistic appearing subject matter.  Water is a favorite theme that inspires her vivid pastels, whether it is placid or rushing, reflective or totally abstract.

The Framemaker

The Framemaker presents “Venus in Retrograde,” an exhibit of artwork by local artist Morgan Conwell. Morgan received her bachelor of fine arts degree in Studio Art from Austin Peay State University in Spring 2009. According to the artist, “It is my intention to warm the viewer’s senses with the qualities in Venus that are devout in these times of retrograde. This is how I see things, full of light, color, and love.” The show will remain on display during normal business hours (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.) throughout the month of February.

Hodgepodge

Hodgepodge is proud to feature Lucille Richardson, a Clarksville native and veteran of the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System.  Lucille began exploring her talents as an artist in 1972, then took a break in the early 80s to serve as a teacher’s aide and assist her Pastor husband with his duties.  With the passing of her husband, three years ago, Lucille returned to her easel and is making-up for lost time!  She enjoys using acrylics to capture everyday scenes of life.  Please join us learn more about this lovely lady and her extraordinary passion for art.

Ingredients

Ingredients will feature two artists this month.  MaryBeth Newman is owner and head baker of Sugar Lane Cupcakery a home based gourmet cake and cupcake catering small business. She was born and raised in Clarksville and started in the baking business roughly 2 years ago. Baking cakes and cupcakes has become an outlet for delighting customers with beautiful and creative designs. She looks forward to each and every order because she knows it will be a chance for her to express her creativity and to see the excitement on the customer’s face.

Kimberley Moore moved here from Houston, Texas to care for her aging grandparents. With her responsibilities for their care she unable to work outside the home. Therefore making jewelry is perfect for her and she is very excited about the new opportunities life has to offer. She enjoys making people happy with jewelry that makes them feel pretty. Each piece of jewelry is made with love so on most pieces she attaches a tag that says, “made with love” or beads and charms shaped like hearts, something indicating love. No two pieces are exactly alike and she is happy to do “special request” for festive occasions etc.ie.; length of necklaces, type of closures, bead sizes, types, colors.

The Roxy Regional Theatre’s Peg Harvill Gallery

The Roxy Regional Theatre’s Peg Harvill Gallery features “From the Collection of Susan Bryant,” a variety of hand-colored black-and-white photos from the past twenty years.  Stay for THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES in theotherspace at 7pm, and don’t forget to get your tickets for ONCE UPON A TIME on Saturday at 2pm.

Rogate’s Boutique


Rogate’s will have a wonderful treat for artwalk evening. Rachel Ison of Appealing Jewelry Designs will be showcasing her amazingly intricate jewelry and will be demonstrating her wire wrapping technique.  Depending on the design you are interested in, she may be able to make something up for your while you watch!

Visions Metaphysical Boutique

Visions Metaphysical BoutiqueVisions Metaphysical Boutique is proud to present a new artist for Feb Artwalk, Kari Lewis.  Kari does beautiful portraits of people & animals in charcoal and pastels.  She is a real talent, with a lot of potential.  Come by to meet her on Feb 3!
