APSU announces recipients of inaugural Candlelight Ball Awards during luncheon

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s 27th Annual Candlelight Ball is just around the corner, and for the first time, two individuals were honored and recognized during a luncheon held February 1st to announce the event.

The Wendell H. Gilbert Award and the Spirit Award were presented to two individuals for their outstanding achievement, contribution or recognition they have brought to Austin Peay.

The Gilbert Award was presented to the honor’s namesake, Wendell Gilbert. A retired Army brigadier general and graduate from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and George Washington University, Gilbert served as APSU’s vice president for development and university relations for 17 years. Among his many other accomplishments, he was named emeritus and given the Distinguished Achievement Award, APSU’s highest honor. He has served with the Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Clarksville and AUSA National Resolutions Committee. In 2002, he was named deputy to the governor for homeland security and was appointed as former Gov. Don Sundquist’s chief of staff.

The Spirit Award was given to Britney Campbell, assistant vice president/marketing officer for Legends Bank. A Clarksville native and APSU alumna, she has served as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Business Development Committee, YMCA Board, Leadership Clarksville, APSU Governors Club, Rivers and Spires Committee and Clarksville Young Professionals. She is a member of the Customs House Museum Guild and Candlelight Ball Committee.

Reservations for Candlelight Ball cost $150.00 per person or $2,500 to sponsor a table of 10. Table hosts, who are asked to recruit friends to fill the other seats at their table, are still needed. Call 931-221-7979 for ticket reservations.
