Trailing 1-0 entering the fourth, Austin Peay (8-6) got some assistance from the Arkansas State defense which committed back-to-back two-out errors to jump start a four-run offensive outburst. Torres made the Red Wolves pay further with a two-run single, pushing the Govs lead to 4-1.

Three innings later, the Govs scored five runs without any Red Wolves help. Right fielder Jon Clinard walked to start the inning and moved to second on shortstop Reed Harper’s sacrifice bunt. Second baseman Jordan Hankins brought Clinard home with a single, extending the lead to 5-2.
