Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team starts a key stretch of Ohio Valley Conference games, Thursday afternoon, with a 5:00pm, doubleheader against Tennessee State at Lady Govs Field.
The doubleheader will be the first of five OVC games this week for the Lady Govs (6-22, 1-7 OVC), who haven’t played since last Sunday’s 5-4 win over Eastern Michigan. After a slow league start, APSU looks to get back into the race as only the top six regular-season finishers will qualify for the OVC tournament. APSU currently is in ninth place in the early-season standings, three games out of the sixth and final spot.

Offensively, the Lady Govs are led freshman Lauren de Castro, who comes into the game hitting at a .293 clip – which includes five doubles and two home runs.
Right behind her is senior Tiffany Smith (.286, 3 HR, 16 RBI), and juniors Catie Cozart (.278, 2 HR, 11 RBI) and Amy Mills (.275, 1 HR, 7 RBI).
Tennessee State enters the contest being led at the plate by Tedra Alford (.333, 2 HR, 10 RBI) and Caitlin Eaton (.326, 3 HR, 12 RBI).
Eaton is also the top pitcher for the Lady Tigers, coming in with a 4-11 win-loss record, with 52 strikeouts in 87.1 innings of work.
