Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include:

Pitch, Hit, and Run

Aquafina Pitch, Hit and RunYou may register your child now at any of our three community centers or the Parks & Recreation main office.  Registrations will also be accepted the day of the event.  This event will be held at Heritage Park Softball Fields on April 23rd at 10 a.m.

This is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball and is comprised of 3 parts: The “Pitch” contest allows youth to attempt to throw strikes like MLB pitchers by pitching to hit the MLB Strike Zone.  The “Hit” contest is a chance for competitors to take a swing from home plate and be judged on distance and accuracy just like in MLB.  After pitching and hitting, comes the “Run” portion of the competition.  Competitors start at 2nd base and test their speed running into home plate.

The competition is open to baseball enthusiasts ages 7-14. Participants will have the opportunity to advance through four levels of competition with the final round ending at the National Finals at the 2011 MLB All Star Game

Hop on over to the Heritage Park Baseball Fields for the 2011 Spring Eggstravaganza!

Spring EggstravaganzaThe fun begins at 2 p.m. with kids in four age groups hunting more than 30,000 eggs, hoping to find the one golden egg. The special egg entitles the finder to a free week session of swim lessons at one of Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s pools. Age groups; 2 years old and under, 3-5 years old, 6-8 years old, and 9-12 years old.

Kids can enjoy the Clarksville Family Petting Zoo, play games, have their faces painted, compete in races, and visit with the Easter Bunny himself. This event, which ends at 5 p.m., is free and open to the public.

In conjunction, the Easter Bunny will also be hopping on over to three of our community centers to meet with kids and share his eggs! Join him from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., April 11 from 5:30-6:30p.m. at Crow Community Center and then at Kleeman Community Center April 12 and again April 14 at Burt-Cobb Community Center.

The Rivers and Spires FestivalDue to the Rivers & Spires Festival next week, parking will not be available in front or beside the Parks and Recreation’s main office from Thursday, April 14 through Sunday, April 16.

Register today for the 2011 Clarksville Senior Olympics

The Clarksville Senior Olympics promotes healthy lifestyles for senior adults through fitness, sports, and active involvement in life.  The event takes place May 4-7 at various locations.  Sporting events include badminton, bowling, golf, horseshoes, swimming, shuffleboard, table tennis, and track.  Registration forms are available at the Parks and Recreation office and Community Centers.

Doggiepalooza 2011

The 5th Annual Doggiepalooza will take place May 7 from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Heritage Park Bark Park. Bring your 4-legged family members for a day full of demonstrations, contests, prizes and much more!
Would you like to be a vendor at the event? The booths are a 10-by-10 space and cost $50. The cost for non-profit organizations to participate is a prize worth $25 to be given away to contest winners. Whether you are an artist, a local veterinarian, a dog groomer, a dog trainer, a food vendor of any kind, give us a call.
