Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Youth Program to begin June 4th

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Summer Youth Program will begin June 4th with the opening of program sites and will end July 13th.

Parents of Summer Youth Program participants are encouraged to speak with the site director upon registration for a brief orientation of the program.

The Summer Youth Program is a six-week day camp-type program that is offered each summer to youths, ages 6-16. Gyms at various locations are staffed with directors and assistants, who will help with playtime activities and provide free, instructional classes such as gymnastics and karate.

This year, parents can begin registering SYP participants at Community Center sites beginning at 9:00am and ending at 3:00pm on Tuesday, May 29th at the Kleeman, Burt-Cobb and Crow Community Centers.  Registration at all of the school and housing authority sites will be held 9:00am to 12:00pm on Friday, June 1st at the following locations:

Youth Sites – Ages 6-12

  • Glenellen Elementary School
  • Liberty Elementary School
  • Minglewood Elementary School
  • Hazelwood Elementary School
  • Barksdale Elementary School
  • Northeast Elementary School
  • West Creek Elementary School

Teen Sites – Ages 13-16

  • Moore Elementary School
  • Northeast Middle School
  • New Providence Middle School

Summer Youth ProgramParents can register their children for gymnastics and karate classes onsite during registration for the Summer Youth Program. Gymnastic classes are taught by skilled gymnasts and provide participants with a firm understanding of the fundamentals of gymnastics.

Karate is instructed by trained individuals, who will present instruction to the kids in a fun, yet disciplined manner. Youth are sure to have fun and enjoy these classes that are offered free of charge.

In addition to the regular Summer Youth Program activities, a six-week tennis instruction session is offered. Pre-registration and parent’s permission is required. The sessions begin June 4th and registration will take place from 9:00am-11:00am on June 1st place at the Swan Lake Tennis Complex

Another program offered in which pre-registration is a requirement, is the six-week theatre workshop offered by The Roxy Regional Theatre. Beginning June 4th, young people will learn the fundamentals of acting and even participate in a theatre performance on July 12th at the Roxy from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. The program is offered to ages 10-16. Program spaces are limited, so hurry in to register. Registration will require a $30.00 fee, which can be paid at the Parks and Recreation Office beginning the week of May 29th. You may register anytime after June 6th, but the fee remains the same.

ArcheryAfter previous years’ popularity, an Archery class will once again be offered from 9:00am to 11:00am June 18th to 22nd for ages 10-16 at Billy Dunlop Park. The cost for the week-long class is $10.00 per person. Registration begins May 29th at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Main Office or online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com.

New this year to Summer Youth Program is the American Twisters Tumbling camp.  Campers ages 6-16 can learn to roll, flip and turn with instructor Kellie Olson, June 11th-14th, June 25th-28th, or July 2nd-6th (no class July 4) from 9:00am to 11:30am at American Twisters Tumbling, located at 438 Kelly Lane. Cost of the camp is $40.00 per child. Registration will take place at American Twisters Tumbling, located at 438 Kelly Lane.
