Kenwood High School Knights Basketball remains unbeaten with 70-48 victory over West Creek
Ranked eighth in the Midstate Top 10 Boys Basketball Poll, Kenwood (7-1, 3-0 District 10-AAA) was tied with West Creek, 13-13, after the first quarter. But a technical foul on West Creek (4-7, 2-1 District 10-AAA) for hanging on the rim on a basket by the Knights Daniel Norl turned out to be six-point play for Kenwood.Norl got credit for the bucket, hit one of two technical free throws awarded after the basket and on the ensuing possession after the free throws Kenya Mosley knocked down a long three to have the game go from 13-13 to 19-13 Kenwood. Norl would finish with a game-high 26 points. The Knights would build the lead out to eight points on a basket by Norl, with 5:57 left, but West Creek ran off five straight points to get to within three points, 21-18, with 4:24 left in the first half. Kenwood would answer right back from distance, as Mosley, Norl and Kyrus Newman knocked down three straight 3s to give the Knights their first double-figure lead of the night, 30-19, with 1:58 left before intermission. Adam Wendel would hit a three for the Coyotes to start a 7-2 run to end the first half by West Creek, as they went into halftime down six points to Kenwood, 32-26. The Knights would pull away in the third quarter, as they held the Coyotes to just three points over the first seven-plus minutes of the period, while scoring 13 points of their own to build its biggest lead of the game, 45-29, with 1:06 left in the third quarter before heading into the final quarter up 47-33. The fourth quarter would see the Knights continue their offensive barrage, as Kenwood extended its lead out to as many as 26 points in the final period, before clearing its bench late and finishing with a 22-point victory, 70-48. The game had started off like it might be a tight battle the entire night, as the two teams traded the lead back and forth five times over the first six minutes and were tied another three times – including a 13-13 deadlock at the end of the opening quarter.
