Clarksville Police release Check Scam update

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – On December 1st, 2016 the Clarksville Police Department made the public aware of a check scam. There were several responses to the scam alert.

First, an off-duty Detective was approached by the suspect with the same story at a local business and was able to collect photos. Two of the three victims positively identified him as the same suspect that approached them.

CPD could not get in contact with the third victim.

Second, a Clarksville citizen commented on the CPD Facebook post with a mugshot that matched the suspect photos collected by the detective, which is how we got the suspect’s name.

Finally, the Oak Grove, KY Police Department responded with photos of the same suspect with the following narrative:

43-year-old Mark Carr from Clarksville Tennessee.“If anyone comes into contact with this subject around the Oak Grove Kentucky Wal-Mart area, please notify officers. Subject is a scam artist who claims he needs money for his family. Please do not cash any checks for him! He will ask you to meet him to cash a paypal check for him and adv he will give you a portion. This is a scam.

Suspect: 43-year-old Mark Carr from Clarksville.

Also, thank you CPD Officer Tony Dillard for the additional information that was added to each report and assisting me with meeting with the victims.

Finally, if Mr. Carr approaches you asking you for money, say NO!
