Austin Peay State University celebrates 90th anniversary with special event and tree planting

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University President Alisa White and her husband, Elliott Herzlich, commemorated the University’s 90th anniversary with a special ceremony and tree planting on Wednesday.

The noon event took place on the lawn in front of the Browning Building, and it included performances by the Governors’ Own Marching Band, the APSU Chamber Singers, the University Choir, the Austin Peay Dance Team and members of the APSU Cheerleading Squad.

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University athletics annual end-of-the-year awards banquet got a bit of an upgrade this year.

The First ESPEAY Awards were awarded Thursday night in the APSU Dunn Center, with Tearra Banks, Dre Gleason, Alex Robles and Kaylnn Pitts emerging with some of the evening’s top prizes.

NASA’s Cassini spacecraft completes voyage between Saturn and it’s Rings

NASA - National Aeronautics and Space AdministrationPasadena, CA – NASA’s Cassini spacecraft is back in contact with Earth after its successful first-ever dive through the narrow gap between the planet Saturn and its rings on April 26th, 2017.

The spacecraft is in the process of beaming back science and engineering data collected during its passage, via NASA’s Deep Space Network Goldstone Complex in California’s Mojave Desert.

The DSN acquired Cassini’s signal at 11:56pm PDT on April 26th, 2017 (1:56am CDT on April 27th) and data began flowing at 12:01am PDT (2:01am CDT) on April 27th.

Nashville Sounds pitcher Sonny Gray delivers six inning shutout in 9-2 win

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Sonny Gray struck out seven batters over six shutout innings in the Nashville Sounds’ 9-2 win in front of 9,291 fans at First Tennessee Park Thursday night.

Pitching for the first time in a Sounds uniform, the Nashville native cruised through his six frames, allowing only two hits along the way. The right-hander did not walk a batter in the winning effort.

Franklin Barreto didn’t waste any time giving Gray and the Sounds (7-11) an early lead. The 21-year-old led off the bottom of the first inning with his team-leading fourth homer of the season.

AAA reports Tennessee Gas Prices Reach Ten Month High

 

Clarksville has some of the cheapest gas prices in the state of Tennessee.

AAATampa, FL Tennessee gas prices reached $2.18 on Thursday – the highest daily average since June 2016. The Tennessee average declined every day since, averaging $2.17 on Sunday.

“Falling oil and wholesale gas prices should signal lower prices at the pump this week,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “However, oil prices have been fickle this year, so motorists should expect continued volatility in the next couple of months as oil prices fluctuate, demand rises, and refineries complete the switchover to more expensive summer blends.”

The current average gas prices in Tennessee is 22 cents more than this time last year.

Tennessee Adjutant General Max Haston Receives Danish Medal

 

Tennessee National GuardNashville, TN – In a ceremony at the Tennessee National Guard Joint Force Headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee, on March 27th, Tennessee’s Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Max Haston, received the Danish Home Guard Meritorious Service Medal.

The award was presented by the commander of the Danish Home Guard, Maj. Gen. Finn Winkler, for spearheading the groundwork for future training opportunities between the Tennessee National Guard and the Danish Home Guard.

Clarksville Police report Fairview Lane Homicide Suspect Returned, Charged in Clarksville

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – On April 19th, 2017 Clarksville Police conducted a welfare check at an apartment on Fairview Lane and found Allison Tenbarge deceased inside of the apartment. The suspect, Quentin Bird, 21, of Clarksville was captured in Kuttawa, KY.

On Wednesday, April 26th, 2017, around 2:52pm, Quentin Bird returned to Clarksville and was charged with criminal homicide in the death of Allison Tenbarge.
