Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) students returning to campus this week will notice something different in the Morgan University Center’s food court – several state-of-the-art digital kiosks in front of the venue’s Chick-fil-A.

The ordering stations are part of a new, $257,000 renovation of the restaurant, and the APSU location marks the first time Chick-fil-A has installed the kiosks on a college campus.

“We’re excited to offer a technology-based solution for our tech-savvy college guests,” Lauren Fladger, with Chick-fil-A’s Service and Hospitality team, said. “We also wanted to phase out the self-service model and elevate the hospitality experience while acknowledging that college campuses have different dynamics than our traditional restaurants.”

The University’s Chick-fil-A location closed in early December for the demolition and renovation, funded by Chartwells, Austin Peay’s dining services contractor. The new venue opened today, January 14th, to coincide with the beginning of the spring semester at APSU. With the new kiosks, customers will receive made-to-order meals, like they would in a traditional store, rather than the grab-and-go concept previously used.

“We appreciate and value the relationship we have with Chartwells and Chick-fil-A,” Joe Mills, Austin Peay State University assistant vice president for Student Affairs/director of Housing, said. “We are excited to be the first campus in the nation to offer a first-class experience for our students at APSU.”

The venue’s aesthetics also were modernized as part of the renovation. Digital menu boards replaced the old menu boards, and orders now come with QR codes to speed up the checkout process at the register.
