APSU Women’s Cross Country places sixth at Fast Cats Classic

APSU Women's Cross CountryOwensboro, KYEmmaculate Kiplagat finished in the top-five in the individual results as Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s cross country team steamrolled in Owensboro, Kentucky at the Fast Cats Classic on Saturday morning.

Kiplagat placed fifth with the time of 18:37 seconds, leading a Governors sixth-place finish in the team results.

The remaining six runners for the Governors all crossed the finish line within a minute of each other. Sara Martin was the first of the six after she placed 36th with the time of 20:03. Keleah Shell was not far from Martin and timed 20:16 (44th).

Running right behind Shell, Molly Howard crossed the finish line just two seconds later and placed 45th (20:18). Mikaela Smith joined the duo of Shell and Howard after Smith and placed two spots from Howard with the time of 20:23 (47th).

Larin Harr and Sophia Wilson were the final two Governors to cross the finish line and was only four seconds from each other. Harr came in before Wilson and Harr timed 21:07 and placed 65th. Wilson rounded off the points for the Govs as she finished with the time of 21:11 (67th).

“Coach Woodward (assistant coach) had a goal for all of our women to finish under 21 minutes, and we were pretty close to it,” said Govs head coach Valerie Brown. “The training has been there for the past two weeks and it was good to see how these women came out this morning.”

Austin Peay will head to Murray State to run in the Murray State Open next Friday.
