Austin Peay State University Men’s Cross Country has strong runs at OVC Championships

APSU Men's Cross CountryEdwardsville, IL – Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s cross country team posted strong runs in the final meet of the 2019 season Saturday morning at the Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championships.

Thomas Porter led the way for the Governors in the eight-kilometer race and finished 56th with a time of 27:26.7. Nash Young secured another top-two finish for the team after he placed 63rd at 27:46.1.

Hezron Kiptoo was the next Gov to cross the finish line and clocked 27:58.6 (70th). Two spots later, Daniel Davis came across the finished line and timed 28:04.7 (72nd). Joseph Redman just missed finishing 29 minutes on the dot by less than a half-second and timed 29:00.4 (81st).

Freshman Ryan Martin finished his first OVC Championship run at 29:29.8 (85th). The two remaining freshmen, Elliot Reed and William Norris, finished in sequential order (89th and 90th). Reed finish first out of the duo at 29:48.6, while Norris crossed the finish line at 30:08.4. Andrew Abel finished off the points for the Governors after he placed 100th and clocked 32:08.1.

The Governors placed 10th in the team standings with Eastern Kentucky taking home the title.

“In my opinion, Daniel [Davis], who is a senior, had a good day for us,” said head coach Valerie Brown. “Nash ran great as well. I was pleased with the efforts.

“I thought it was a solid season, and there was a lot to take from it. It was a lot of learning for our younger guys who just now getting to start running 8ks in college and coming from high school. I was pleased again with the efforts across the board, but it just was not a great day for everyone, and you have that sometimes with championship meets.”
