Tennessee Bureau of Investigation adds Jail Escapee, Convicted Child Rapist, Joel Blanton to TBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted List

Nashville, TN -The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has a new addition to its ‘Top 10 Most Wanted’ list: Joel Ernest Blanton.
Blanton (DOB 2-10-81) is wanted by the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department and the TBI after escaping from the Van Buren County Jail at approximately 1:00am today, June 25th, 2018. On April 17th, Blanton was found guilty of four counts of Rape of a Child and two counts of Aggravated Sexual Battery. He was awaiting a Wednesday sentencing when he escaped this morning.
Ortiz Nabbed after 11 Years on the Run
Nashville, TN – An investigation by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the coordinated intelligence efforts from multiple other agencies has resulted in the arrest of a fugitive who has eluded capture for over a decade.
In November 2005, detectives with the Springfield Police Department obtained warrants charging a man, who used the false identity of Joe Anthony Mercado Ortiz, with 4 counts of Child Rape and 5 counts of Aggravated Sexual Battery.
Ortiz was arrested on November 15th, 2005, and was released after posting a $125,000 bond.
Clarksville, TN – Today August 14th, 2015, 27-year-old Brandon Kyle Hester was booked into Montgomery County Jail with the chargeed with two counts of Rape of Child, two counts of Aggravated Sexual Battery, two counts of Aggravated Statutory Rape, and two counts of Sexual Battery by an Authority Figure with a total bond amount of $150,000.
These incidents took place while Hester was teaching in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS). He worked with CMCSS from 2010 to 2012.
On Wednesday night, U.S. Marshals from the Eastern Arkansas Fugitive Task Force arrested Samuel A. McCurry in Fordyce, Arkansas. Investigators believe McCurry, who lives in Gruetli Laager, TN, traveled to an acquaintance’s home in Fordyce in an attempt to elude authorities.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation places Samuel McCurry of Grundy County on TBI’s Top Ten Most Wanted List
Samuel McCurry is wanted by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for four counts of Aggravated Sexual Battery and Rape of a Child. He failed to appear in court for the charges on June 4th, 2014.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation removes Top Ten Most Wanted Fugitive after his captured in California
Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation today removed a man wanted on child rape charges out of Williamson County from the state’s Top Ten Most Wanted list today after he was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in California.
U.S. Marshalls captured Wendell Lee Washam, 82, at the LAX Airport yesterday afternoon after he arrived on a flight from Australia. He is being held in Los Angeles awaiting extradition.
Clarksville, TN – In August 2012, Clarksville Police received a Tennessee Department of Children’s Services (DCS) referral in reference to an allegation of Aggravated Sexual Battery on Minor Children involving Dexter Mason. During the investigation three computers from the residence were seized. The computers were turned over to the United States Secret Service to be forensically examined for child pornography.
Dexter Mason and and his wife Mary Mason have been arrested after being indicted by the February 2013 Grand Jury.
Clarksville, TN – On February 2nd, 2013, Clarksville Police received a tip that a Lenzo Grooms, 63 had created a shrine inside of his residence, dedicated to a nine year old female who had visited the residence several times.
Detective Tina Slaven’s investigation uncovered a bizarre and disturbing story. Grooms had a photography business “Have Brush Will Travel” in which he offered a contract to take photographs of neighborhood female children for $20.00.
Clarksville, TN – On November 19th, 2012, Clarksville Police Department received a Department of Children’s Services referral in reference to an allegation of Aggravated Sexual Battery which occurred at Spring Creek Baptist Church located at 2760 Trenton Road.
It was alleged that on November 18th, 2012, a Sunday school teacher had inappropriate contact with a six year old female while on the church property.
