Edmondson named Athlete of the Week

 

Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Tyshwan Edmondson, a junior on the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Tyshwan EdmondsonThe Hopkinsville, KY, native who consistently has seen his first name misspelled Tyshawn, has been named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week after his superb play during the Chicago Invitational Challenge last week. He averaged 18.3 ppg during the tourney’s final three games, shooting 47.1 percent from the floor. He also had 10 steals (3.3), including five against Charleston Southern and three more against Oakland.

Edmondson was named to the CIC all-tourney team after leading the Govs in scoring in two of three games played, including 16 points in his first career start at No. 8 Purdue. «Read the rest of this article»

Tyshwan EdmondsonThe junior guard from Hopkinsville, KY, who has consistently seen his first name misspelled Tyshawn, has been named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week after his superb play during the Chicago Invitational Challenge last week. The 6-4 guard averaged 18.3 ppg during the tourney’s final three games, shooting 47.1 percent from the floor. He also had 10 steals (3.3), including five against Charleston Southern and three more against Oakland.

Game-tying bank shot leads to Governors overtime loss

Austin Peay State University GovernorsHoffman Estates, IL – Reggie Hamilton banked in a three-pointer with 3.0 seconds left to send the game into overtime and then Oakland took advantage of its immense size inside during the extra session to down Austin Peay State University, 78-70, Saturday afternoon in final-day activity of the Chicago Invitational Challenge, played at the Sears Centre.

The victory drops the Govs to 3-4 on the season heading into Thursday’s Ohio Valley Conference opener at Southeast Missouri.

The Governors had taken the lead 64-63 with 33 seconds left when freshman Will Triggs scored inside. Then after a Oakland miss, they fouled Tyshwan Edmondson with 17.2 seconds. The junior from Hopkinsville knocked down both free throws to give the Govs a three-point lead.

Govs snap losing streak with win against Charlston Southern

Austin Peay State University GovernorsHoffman Estates, IL – Austin Peay State University used 51 percent field goal shooting and a dominating rebounding effort to defeat Charleston Southern, 70-64, Friday afternoon, in Chicago Invitational Challenge action, played at the Sears Centre Arena.

The victory snapped a three-game APSU losing streak and evened the Govs mark at 3-3 on the season while Charleston Southern falls to 2-4 on the season. The Governors now will play Oakland, 1:30pm, Saturday to wrap up tourney play.

Governors seek to snap 3-game skid against Bucs

Austin Peay State University GovernorsHoffman Estates, IL – Austin Peay’s road show has gone almost due north as the Governors will play Charleston Southern, noon, Friday, in third game of the Chicago Invitational Challenge, to be held at the Sears Centre Arena.

The Governors first two games of the tourney were played at Southern Illinois, Sunday, and Purdue, Tuesday.

APSU is now halfway through a grueling early-season road trek that will see them play nine games away from Clarksville before they play its regular-season home opener, December 7th, against Lipscomb. Purdue uses early second-half run to pull away from Govs

Austin Peay State University GovernorsWest Lafayette, IN – No. 8/10 Purdue opened the second half on a 20-6 run to break open a close game as it defeated Austin Peay State University, 87-65, Tuesday night, in the second round of the Chicago Invitational Challenge.

The tourney now moves to Chicago and the Sears Centre Arena, where the Govs will play Charleston Southern, noon, Friday.

The loss was the Governors third straight and dropped APSU to 2-3 on the season. Purdue, meanwhile, improved to 4-0.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsWest Lafayette, IN – The Associated Press has Purdue ranked No. 10 in its latest college basketball poll. ESPN/USA Today has the Boilermarkers ranked 8th.

Regardless of the slight disparity in the rankings one thing Austin Peay State University knows, Purdue is one of the nation’s top basketball teams. The two teams will meet 6:00pm, Tuesday, at Mackey Arena in second-round play of the Chicago Invitational Challenge.

Playing an opponent of this magnitude is nothing new for several of the Governors, who played No. 3 Kentucky and Missouri a year ago. Governors come up short at SIU

Austin Peay State University GovernorsCarbondale, IL – Rebounding problems led to Austin Peay State University’s undoing, Sunday, afternoon as the Governors incurred their second straight loss.

Southern Illinois outrebounded the Governors, 39-21, including 16 offensive grabs leading to 13 second-chance points, as Austin Peay fell, 72-65, at SIU Arena in first-day play of the Chicago Invitational Challenge.

The loss dropped the Governors to 2-2 on the season while SIU improved to 1-2. The Governors next will meet Purdue, 6:00pm, Tuesday, in Mackey Arena for tourney second-round play.

Governors set to open Chicago tourney at SIU

Austin Peay State University GovernorsCarbondale, IL – Austin Peay will attempt to eradicate the bad taste of a disappointing 104-101 overtime loss from its mouth, 2:05pm, Sunday, when it opens the Chicago Invitational Challenge at Southern Illinois.

The Governors’ attempt to open the season at 3-0 was derailed in Nashville, Thursday night, when they missed four free throws in the final 25 seconds, allowing Lipscomb to erase a five-point deficit and send the game to overtime. Lipscomb carried that momentum to open the extra session and the Governors were never able to recover.
