Tennessee Vols rally in second half to beat Lipscomb, 92-77

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TNGrant Williams scored a career-high 30 points, and Robert Hubbs III had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds as Tennessee defeated Lipscomb 92-77 on Thursday night at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Tennessee (6-4) dominated the second half to respond to Lipscomb’s (4-9) strong start. In the second half, the Vols shot 53.8 percent (14-of-26) shooting and enjoyed a 25-13 advantage on the glass. UT finished with 41 rebounds to Lipscomb’s 29.

The Horned Frogs (7-0-1) got off to a dream start, scoring two goals in the opening two minutes.

APSU Soccer - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer head coach Kelley Guth announced the team’s 2016 fall schedule, Wednesday, which features nine home matches at APSU Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.

Following an exhibition contest at Georgia State (August 14th), the Govs officially open the regular season at UAB (August 19th) and Alabama State (August 21st).

UT Vols Basketball 2nd Half woes continue in 75-63 loss to TCU Horned Frogs

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsFort Worth, TX – It was a tale of two halves in Tennessee’s 75-63 loss to TCU on Saturday afternoon at Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth.

The Vols led by 14 points at halftime but were outscored by 26 in the second half as the Horned Frogs held them to a season-low 22 points over the final 20 minutes.

Kevin Punter Jr. scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Vols in scoring for the 16th time this season and freshman forward Kyle Alexander provided a nice boost off the bench, posting career highs with 11 rebounds and six blocks.

The Big Orange turned in a dominant first-half performance and put on a 3-point shooting clinic, making 8 of 16 attempts from long range. Punter led all scorers with 15 points at the break as UT went to the locker room with a 41-27 lead.

UT Vols Basketball travels to Fort Worth to take on TCU Horned Frogs

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – Tennessee breaks from SEC play and closes out the month of January on Saturday when it travels to Fort Worth, Texas, to face TCU in the Vols final non-conference tilt. Game time is set for 2:00pm ET/1:00pm CT on ESPN2.

Saturday’s game was scheduled as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge. It is the second straight year that the Vols have participated, having picked up a 65-64 victory over Kansas State in last year’s edition.

Tennessee (10-10, 3-5 SEC) is looking to finish its non-conference slate with an 8-5 record, including its first non-league road win of the season. The Vols dropped to .500 overall with a 63-57 setback at Alabama on Tuesday night.

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsTuscaloosa, AL – Tennessee couldn’t hold on to a late lead in a 63-57 loss to Alabama at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa on Tuesday night.

The Vols led by as many as 15 points in the second half but faltered on offense down the stretch as the Crimson Tide were able to complete the comeback.

Kevin Punter Jr. led three Vols in double figured with 15 points, 13 of which came in the second half. Robert Hubbs III and Admiral Schofield chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively.

UT Vols Basketball upsets No. 24/18 South Carolina Gamecocks 78-69

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – A career-high 36 points from Kevin Punter carried Tennessee to its first win over a ranked opponent in more than a year with a 78-69 victory over No. 24/18 South Carolina Saturday afternoon at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The Vols’ last victory over a ranked foe came against No. 19 Arkansas, a 74-69 win, also at Thompson-Boling Arena on January 13th, 2015.

Tennessee’s leading scorer on the season, Punter’s 36 points marked his third 30-point performance of the year. Six of his eight field goals came from beyond the 3-point line. He was nearly flawless, 14-of-15, from the free throw stripe, part of a 30-for-32 performance at the line for the Volunteers.
