#23 Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball holds off LSU for 63-58 win

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The No. 23/23 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team got back in the win column on Sunday, defeating LSU, 63-58, in a key SEC match-up in front of a season-best crowd of 10,230 at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The victory enabled the Lady Vols to post a 2-1 record during a week in which they played three games, including both SEC opponents entering games having had an off-date prior to their meeting with the Lady Vols.

Junior forward Rennia Davis led Tennessee (16-4, 6-1 SEC), going a perfect 10 of 10 from the free-throw line en route to a game-high 30 points and eight rebounds.

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – No. 23/23 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team (15-3, 5-1 SEC) will be in Hartford, CT, on Thursday night to take part in the Basketball Hall of Fame Revival Series vs. #3/5 UConn (16-1, 7-0 AAC) at XL Arena. Tipoff is slated for 6:00pm CT.

As part of the two-year series, UConn will host Tennessee this season, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Pat Summitt Foundation and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. In the 2020-21 season, the Lady Vols will host the Huskies in Knoxville, with a portion of the proceeds again benefitting the Pat Summitt Foundation and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, as well as the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball holds off Alabama for 65-63 home win

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN Rennia Davis’ deep, step-back three-pointer with 0.8 seconds remaining lifted No. 23/25 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team past Alabama, 65-63, on Monday night at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The junior forward’s heroics helped the Lady Vols end a five-game losing streak to the Crimson Tide and provide Kellie Harper her 300th career victory as a head coach.

Freshman Jordan Horston led Tennessee (15-3, 5-1 SEC) in scoring with 19 points and eight rebounds. Davis also had another strong showing, connecting on seven of 11 shots from the field, including her only three-point attempt, to finish with 16 points and nine rebounds.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – No. 24/25 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team (14-3, 4-1 SEC) is back home for a Monday night tussle with Alabama (11-6, 1-3 SEC) at Thompson-Boling Arena. Tip-off is slated for 6:02pm CT.

This will mark the 57th meeting between these programs, with the Lady Vols leading the all-time series by a 49-7 advantage. The series has been a streaky one. UA brings a five-game winning spree into Knoxville.

That string came after Tennessee had won an otherworldly 42 straight from March 23rd, 1984, through January 31st, 2016.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball slay Florida Gators, 78-50

 

UT Lady VolsGainesville, FL – The No. 24/25 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team picked up their third-straight SEC win on Thursday, defeating the Gators in Exactech Arena, 78-50.

Junior Rennia Davis, playing in front of family and friends who made the drive over from Jacksonville, led the effort for Tennessee (14-3, 4-1 SEC), finishing the day with 18 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Rae Burrell was also in double digits with 11 points. 

Freshmen Lavender Briggs and Brylee Bartram led Florida (11-7, 2-3 SEC) with 11 points each.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – No. 24/25 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team (13-3, 3-1 SEC) hits the road this week, traveling to Gainesville to take on Florida (10-6, 2-2 SEC) in a 5:01pm CT contest on Thursday at Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. This will mark the 57th meeting between these programs, with the Lady Vols leading the all-time series by a 52-4 advantage. 

Tennessee won its second straight league game and picked up its fifth victory in its last six contests on Sunday, as the Lady Vols overcame an early four-point deficit to defeat Georgia by 17, 73-56.

UT also has SEC wins over Missouri (77-66) and Ole Miss (84-28) and is tied for third in the league.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball cruises to 73-56 win over Georgia

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The No. 23/24 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team picked up their third SEC win on Sunday, defeating Georgia at Thompson-Boling Arena, 73-56, in front of a season-high crowd of 10,036. 

UT (13-3, 3-1 SEC) was led by junior Rennia Davis with 17 points and six rebounds. Senior Lou Brown and freshmen Tamari Key and Jordan Horston were also in double figures with 12, 13 and 14, respectively. 

Junior Maya Caldwell paced Georgia (10-7, 1-3 SEC) in scoring with 13 points. Gabby Connally chipped in 11 points, and Que Morrison finished with 10.

#23/24 Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball drops steam rolls Ole Miss, 84-28

 

UT Lady VolsOxford. MO – No. 23/24 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team picked up its second SEC win of the season on Thursday night, rolling past Ole Miss, 84-28.
 
Junior Rennia Davis led the Lady Vols (12-3, 2-1 SEC) with 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Freshman Jordan Horston narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with 11 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Freshman Jessie Rennie also was in double figures with 11 points, shooting a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
 
Ole Miss (8-8, 0-3 SEC) was paced by Dominique Banks with 12 points and Jayla Alexander who had nine.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball defeats Missouri, 77-66

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – A dominant effort in the paint and an outstanding defensive second quarter helped the Tennessee Women’s basketball team give Lady Vols head coach Kellie Harper a victory in her Southeastern Conference debut Thursday, as No. 22/23 UT defeated Missouri, 77-66, to open conference play.

Tennessee (11-2, 1-0 SEC) held the Tigers (3-11, 0-1 SEC) to three field goals and just seven points in the second period. And the Lady Vols outscored Mizzou 44-22 in the paint during Thursday’s triumph.

The Lady Vols lived up to their reputation as one of the nation’s top-rebounding teams, out-rebounding the Tigers, 43-22. Tennessee pulled down 18 offensive boards and enjoyed a 19-4 edge in second-chance points.
