Haslam was joined by Rep. Tilman Goins (R-Morristown), Rep. David Hawk (R-Greeneville) and Major General Max Haston, Tennessee’s Adjutant General.

Governor to Sign Tennessee Reconnect Act Wednesday in Morristown, Smyrna and Memphis

 

Tennessee State GovernmentNashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam will make history on Wednesday as he signs the Tennessee Reconnect Act, making Tennessee the first state in the nation to offer all citizens – both high school graduates and adults – the chance to earn a postsecondary degree or certificate free of tuition and fees and at no cost to taxpayers.

Haslam will be in each of the grand divisions, holding bill signing ceremonies in Morristown, Smyrna and Memphis.

Governor Bill Haslam Signs Tennessee Broadband Accessibility Act

Tennessee State GovernmentBrownsville, TN – Before a meeting of the Governor’s Rural Development Task Force at H&R Agri-Power, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam held a ceremonial signing of the Tennessee Broadband Accessibility Act, the governor’s legislation to increase broadband access to Tennessee’s unserved citizens.

The Tennessee Broadband Accessibility Act permits Tennessee’s private, nonprofit electric cooperatives to provide retail broadband service, and it provides $45 million over three years in grants and tax credits for service providers to assist in making broadband available to unserved homes and businesses.

Tennessee Broadband Accessibility Act Heads to Governor Bill Haslam

 

Second piece of Haslam’s NextTennessee legislative agenda approved by Tennessee General Assembly

Tennessee State GovernmentNashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam praised the passage of the Tennessee Broadband Accessibility Act, the governor’s legislation to increase broadband access to Tennessee’s unserved citizens.

The House of Representatives passed HB 529/SB 1215 93-4, and it now heads to the governor’s desk for signature. The Senate passed the legislation 31-0 on April 3rd.

If the Tennessee Reconnect Act is approved, Tennessee would become the first state in the nation to offer all citizens – both high school students and adults – the chance to earn a post-secondary degree or certificate free of tuition and fees.
