APSU Volleyball selected second in OVC Preseason Poll

APSU Women's VolleyballBrentwood, TN – Expectations will run high for Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team after the Ohio Valley Conference’s coaches and sports information directors picked them to finish second in the 2017 regular-season race, Tuesday.

In addition to the preseason poll, senior middle blocker Ashley Slay and junior setter Kristen Stucker were named to the 14-member Preseason All-OVC team. Each following a First-Team All-OVC appearance for each last season.

Austin Peay Athlete of the Week Cami Fields, November 6th 2012

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Sophomore setter Cami Fields, of Austin Peay State University volleyball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Fields recorded a career-high 64 assists in the Lady Govs five-set win against Southeast Missouri, Saturday, along with a career-best four blocks and 14 digs. She’s the first Lady Gov to record more than 60 assists in a match since Sarah Alisaleh’s 62-assist performance at Tennessee Tech, November 3rd, 2007.

Lady Govs golf team earns OVC Team Academic Achievement Award for third straight year

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For a third straight year, Austin Peay State University women’s golf team has been saluted with the Ohio Valley Conference Team Academic Achievement Award.

The award is presented annually in each Conference-sponsored sport to the member institution’s team with the greatest percentage of its eligible student-athletes who achieved a 3.25 grade-point average or higher—OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.  The Lady Govs golf team had seven of its student-athletes earn such distinction. As a team the Lady Govs golfers posted a 3.738 grade-point average in the fall and 3.640 in the spring. «Read the rest of this article»

Lady Govs to face Fighting Illini in first-ever NCAA Volleyball Tournament Appearance

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay’s volleyball team will face No. 8 national seed Illinois at 7:00pm, Friday, in the 2010 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championships’ opening round at Huff Hall. 

It is Austin Peay’s first-ever trip to the NCAA championship tournament. The Lady Govs earned the Ohio Valley Conference’s automatic berth after winning the league’s championship tournament, November 20th. 

Austin Peay clinched its second-ever OVC tournament title – and first since 1991 – with a four-set victory against regular-season champion Morehead State which was hosting the tournament. The Lady Govs defeated sixth-seeded Tennessee Tech in a four-set semifinal contest. Austin Peay finished second in the OVC’s regular season race for the second consecutive year.

Lady Govs volleyball to face Illinois at NCAA Touranment

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team will play at No. 8 Illinois, Friday, in Champaign, IL, during the opening round of the 2010 NCAA Volleyball Championship, as announced by the NCAA, Sunday, on ESPNews.

Not only will this be the Lady Govs first trip to the NCAA tournament, it as well will be the first for head coach Haley Janicek, who might be the youngest head coach in the NCAA at only 23-years-old.

A former All-Western Athletic Conference player at the University of Idaho, Janicek joined the Austin Peay staff as an assistant under then-head coach Mike Johnson, in 2009, following her husband’s transfer to the 101st Airborne Division. When Johnson departed, the program opted to promote Janicek to lead the program in a move that has paid off.

Lady Govs volleyball sees eight-match win streak end at Louisville

Austin Peay State University GovernorsLouisville, KY – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team saw its eight-match win streak stopped with a four-set loss (19-25, 25-18, 23-25, 21-25) to Louisville, Saturday, in non-conference action at Louisville Arena.

The first two sets were wire-to-wire affairs. Louisville (22-7) jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the opening set only to watch Austin Peay (26-7) battle back to tie the set at both 6-6 and 7-7. However, the Lady Govs could not take the lead and the Cardinals scored six of the nine points to take a three-point, 12-9 lead. Louisville would nurse that lead until scoring three straight points to take a five-point, 23-18, led which they would maintain.

Doyle leads volleyball to OVC title, named Athlete of the Week

 

Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Nikki Doyle, a sophomore on the Austin Peay State University volleyball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Nikki DoyleThe Santa Maria, CA, native was named “Most Valuable Player” of the Ohio Valley Conference volleyball championship. She led the Lady Govs to a pair of four-set victories to claim their first tournament title since 1991.

Doyle recorded 20 kills and a .234 attack percentage in the semifinal match against Tennessee Tech. She followed that with 17 kills and a .452 attack percentage in the championship at Morehead State.

The Lady Govs are preparing to face Big East Tournament Champion Louisville in a non-conference warmup prior to the NCAA Tournament. «Read the rest of this article»
