Former Austin Peay State University pitcher Matt Reynolds will join the Colorado Rockies, Thursday, after being promoted from Triple-A Colorado Springs overnight.
Reynolds, a 2007 graduate, was drafted by the Rockies in the 20th round (612th overall) of the 2007 draft and has steadily moved up the organization’s ranks over the ensuing three seasons. He has spent all of this season in Colorado Springs, making 50 appearances – all in relief – posting a 1-3 record with seven saves and a 2.62 ERA. Reynolds struck out an impressive 67 batters in 55.0 innings with the Sky Sox while walking only 16. In addition, he was named to the Pacific Coast League’s roster for the Triple-A All-Star game after opening the season with 18.2 consecutive scoreless innings.

Reynolds will join the parent club in Los Angeles tonight and will have an opportunity to see another pair of Governors in the major leagues – Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis and relief pitcher George Sherrill. Reynolds becomes the fourth Austin Peay alumnus in the majors this year – Shawn Kelley, his teammate for his two seasons at APSU, currently is on the disabled list with the Seattle Mariners.
