Fujiyama brings the best New York dining experience to Clarksville, TN

Clarksville, TN – Fujiyama, a Japanese Steak and Sushi restaurant has opened in Clarksville. It is located at 2257 Wilma Rudolph Blvd next to the Mulligan’s Package Store.

The business is owned by Tony Yang, whom area residents will remember as the head Sushi Chef at China King on Lowes Drive. Yang has been cooking for around 20 years. He trained in the art of cooking in New York City at the Sakura & Mizu restaurants. He came to Clarksville to work with his brother, who was the first owner of China King Restaurant on Lowes Drive. He worked there for 6 years.

“It’s always been my dream to own my own restaurant,” Yang said laughing when asked how it felt to own his own business. He said that it had taken him over three months of painstaking preparations to get the new restaurant ready to open; and it was worth every second.

Yang wanted a small establishment because, “Small restaurants are more friendly and encourage a closeness between the customers and staff,” he continued “We treat each of our customers like they are members of our own family.” The restaurant is softly lit, with an intimate atmosphere. Which makes this a perfect place to take a date. Seating is available at tables, booths, or at the sushi bar.

The fish is flown in fresh from the distributor, never frozen. The ingredients are varied Salmon, various kinds of Tuna, Red Snapper, Yellow Tail, Octopus, Shrimp, Lobster, crab, to the vegetables and other items used in preparation of the food.

Presentation is very important at Fujiyama, “We make the dishes from the heart, we want to give the gift of our food to everyone who comes in”. The dishes are artistic masterworks in their own right. Each one custom decorated for the customer with finishing touches put in place by Yang.

Garnishes range from bamboo leaves to cucumber, avocado, scallions, to wasabi and white pickled ginger which has a more mellow flavor than the pink kind that you generally find at other oriental restaurants throughout the area. The soy sauce is specially brewed on the premises. It’s not as harsh as you find at other oriental restaurants. It helps bring out the umami (literally “delicious taste”) in asian cooking.

Dishes available range from a variety of appetizers, soups, salads, various kinds of Sushi (Sashimi, Nigiri, Maki),Tempura, Teriyaki, Katsu Mono, Noodle and Rice Dishes, a variety of dessert options are also available.

Besides the first class sushi, One of the most amazing dishes was the crab cakes which are bursting with big lumps of crab meat placed on a bed of avocado slices, cucumber slivers, and remoulade sauce. These tasty crab cakes have been discovered by other area restaurants which have been coming in, and buying them in bulk to re-serve to their own customers. You should also check out the Basil Mango Shrimp Fried Rice, which is a vision to behold.

I have personally sampled the Goyza, several salads, a number of wonderful sushi dishes, the delicious crab cakes, the ribeye teriyaki, and several of the desserts. In each of the many dishes I have tried at the restaurant, the flavors are crisp and clear with each ingredient contributing but not overwhelming intricate flavors in the dish.

I whole heartedly recommend that you give Fujiyama a try. They are one of the most elegant dining places in Clarksville.

Fujiyama is open Monday through Thursday from 11:00am – 10:00pm, Friday and Saturday from 11:00am – 10:30pm, and Sunday from 1:00pm – 9:00pm.
