Reed Harper named to CoSIDA Academic All-District second-team

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Reed Harper, a sophomore shortstop for the Austin Peay State University baseball team, was named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District IV Baseball Second Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Thursday.

Harper, of Clarksville, was one of two sophomores named to the All-District IV team and one of three Ohio Valley Conference baseball student-athletes named to their respective All-District teams. In the classroom, Harper has a 3.65 grade-point average as a chemistry major. He was a member of the 2009-10 OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll as a freshman after earning President’s List and Dean’s List honors in Fall 2009. Harper also has been named to the Austin Peay Athletics Director’s honor roll each of his three semesters.

On the field, Harper has started every game of his career (94 games), including 81 consecutive games at shortstop. This season, he is third on the team in batting average (.344) while leading the team with 14 doubles, posting 27 RBI and 10 stolen bases. Harper’s current 19-game hit streak is a career best and longest in the OVC this season. He is batting .458 during the hit streak with nine doubles and 18 RBI. In his last outing, Harper had a 3-for-6, six-RBI effort at Morehead State – the Govs first six-RBI performance since 2007.

It is the second consecutive season an Austin Peay baseball student-athlete has been recognized for Academic All-District honors. Former Gov Matt Kole received first-team Academic All-District honors last season.

To be eligible for nomination, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average. District IV selections come from schools located within the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.
