APSU Sports: Men’s Basketball
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s basketball game with California, November 15th, will be part of the ESPN’s College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon, presented by Disney Parks.
That contest will tipoff at 9:00pm CST on ESPN2.
Austin Peay and Morehead State, who plays College of Charleston that day, will become the first two Ohio Valley Conference schools to participate in ESPN’s College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon.
This year’s College Hoops Tip-off Marathon will include 19 live matchups – 17 men’s and two women’s – in a minimum of 25 hours, that will see ESPN host 11 games, ESPN2 three, ESPNU three and two on ESPN3.com, which also will simulcast every ESPN and ESPN2 game. ESPN also will host a special one-hour College GameDay Driven by State Farm.
APSU’s trip to Berkeley to face the Pac-12 Bears is the Govs’ opening game in the College Basketball Experience Classic (CBE). The contest will be played at Haas Pavilion.
Cal finished the 2010-11 season at 18-15, advancing to National Invitational Tournament (NIT) second round. The Bears return their top three leading scorers from a year ago; guard Jorge Gutierrez (14.6 ppg), forward Harper Kamp (14.2 ppg) and the 2011 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year Allen Crabbe (13.4 ppg). Gutierrez and Kamp were Pac-10 All-Conference selections as well.
This is the first time Austin Peay has ever played Cal. It also will be only the third game the Govs have ever played against current Pac-12 members. In fact, his first game as APSU head coach saw Dave Loos’ Govs lose to Arizona in the 1990 Dodge NIT. The Govs defeated Colorado, then a member of the Big 12, in the 2000-01 Top of the World Classic.
The Governors are coming off a 20-14 season that saw them compete in the College Basketball Invitational. The Governors are led by first-team all-Ohio Valley Conference senior guard TyShwan Edmondson, who averaged 17.1 ppg, and forward Josh Terry, who ended at 11 ppg. Redshirt junior Anthony Campbell, a 2009-10 second-team all-OVC choice, averaged 13.9 ppg a year ago before suffering a season-ending December knee injury. Head coach Dave Loos will begin his 22nd year as head coach and has 351 APSU victories.
