APSU Sports: Austin Peay Women’s Track and Field
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team will host the APSU Invitational, Saturday, at Governors Stadium.
The field events are scheduled to begin at 9:00am with the hammer throw, with the track events scheduled to begin at 11:00am, with the 400m relay.

“It’s good for our athletes to have a home meet,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “It gives us an opportunity to sleep in our own beds the night before a meet, and for family and friends to come watch them perform. We’re looking forward to a great meet.”
At last week’s Vanderbilt Black and Gold, senior Chantelle Grey won the 800m run with a 2:09.03 mark, good for the top mark in the OVC and 10th-best nationally. She earned OVC Runner of the Week for her efforts, her season’s second weekly honor.
Grey and junior Xiamar Richards will face off in the 1500m run in a battle between Austin Peay’s top middle distance and distance athletes. Talented freshmen Breigh Jones and Kymmalett Ross also face off in the 400m dash in their first collegiate home meets.
In last year’s APSU Invitational, Grey won the 400m dash with a 55.74 mark, while Richards took the top spot in the 3000m run with a 10:50.98 mark, winning her event by more than 15 seconds.
The APSU Invitational is the first of two home meets for the Lady Govs in 2013. Austin Peay hosts the Battle on the Cumberland, Tuesday, April 23rd, at Governors Stadium.
