Jacksonville, FL – It was a struggling first day for Austin Peay State University women’s golf team during its first spring tournament, UNF Intercollegiate, being played at the Jacksonville Golf and Country Club.

Western Carolina leads the way at 613, followed by host North Florida at 618.
Sophomore Jessica Cathey (84-82) and freshman Morgan Kauffmann (81-85) led the way with 166s, followed by senior Tala Mumford (80-88) at 168. Senior Rachel Deaton came in at 171 (82-89) while junior Meghan Mueller shot a 174 (88-86).
Playing as an individual freshman Morgan Gardner 174 (89-85). Two other freshmen, Amber Bosworth (89-88=177) and Kelsey Schutt (88-96=184), also played as individuals.
“We had a pretty rough first day,” APSU coach Sara Robson said. “After the weather we had this spring and the little course time we’ve had it is understandable to a point. We really struggled with our short game and we just had too many high numbers.
“It is a hard course and we started the second round playing a lot better, but we just could not maintain it.”
The Lady Govs will attempt to improve their standing Tuesday in the tourney’s final 18 holes.
