Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Due to saving pitchers for later appearances in the five-game set, Game 1 of the Austin Peay Baseball Red-Black World Series ended in a 2-2 extra-inning draw on Wednesday from Raymond C. Hand Park.

However, both teams will pick things up on Thursday at 3:30pm, in the ninth inning to complete the opening game.

The Black Team received a strong outing from right-hander Jordan Witcig, who held the Red Squad to just one hit in his five innings of work. The redshirt sophomore also walked a batter while striking out five.

The top three batters in the Black Team order – Imani Willis, Caleb Mitchell, and Cayce Bredlau – combined to rack up all six of the team’s hits. In the fourth inning, Willis put his team on top with a double to left-center, placing it exactly where he doubled in the previous frame. Two batters later, Bredlau singled to left field, giving Black a 2-0 advantage.

Sophomore Alex Robles started for the Red Team, allowing both runs on five hits, while also walking two and striking out four batters. He also went 1-for-3 with a double and run scored at the plate.

In the final scheduled inning, the seventh, Zach Walton of the Black Team walked the first two men he faced, and Red took advantage of it. T.J. Marik laced an RBI single to right as both runners had moved up, and Garrett Copeland followed with a perfectly-placed sacrifice bunt to score Wesley Purcell from third.

With the score knotted at 2-2, the two sides agreed to play on into the eighth. However, as both teams were held without a hit, the game was called off for the night.

After the conclusion of Game 1 tomorrow, the second game of the series will begin at 4:30pm, from Raymond C. Hand Park.
