Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office K9, Deputy gets USPCA Award

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office - MCSOMontgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office K9 Deputy Chris Bedell and K9 Merlin received the USPCA Criminalistic Excellence Award Case of the Quarter last quarter.

They were chosen out of the entire USPCA Region 13.

Bedell stopped a vehicle for speeding and failure to maintain lane and used K9 Merlin to sniff the vehicle.

Merlin indicated the odor of narcotics in the front bumper, which later revealed 4 kilograms of cocaine inside the frame of the vehicle.

The find assisted in obtaining a search warrant where another 5 kilograms of cocaine was seized.

“The K9 team has proven consistently that they are a valuable part of our organization,” said Montgomery County Sheriff John Fuson. “I’m proud of Bedell and Merlin and their efforts, and I know they will continue to do great work for our agency.”
