Austin Peay Sports Information
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will continue its current nine-game home stand by hosting Evansville, 4:00pm, Wednesday, in a non-conference doubleheader at Cheryl Holt Field.
It will be the first meeting between the two programs since April 25th, 2010, when the two squared off in Evansville, IN, and the first time the Purple Aces have been in Clarksville since April, 7th, 2010.
The Lady Govs (8-21) enter the matchup coming off a split of last Saturday’s Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader with Morehead State and winning three of its last four non-conference contests.
Evansville (7-30) comes into the twinbill having not won in almost a month, riding an 11-game losing streak, with its last win coming against Loyola, March 15th.
Offensively, Niya Sparks (.324/6 HR/16 RBI) leads three Lady Govs hitting .300-or-better through the first 29 games of the season for Austin Peay, with Chandler Groves (.314/4 HR/22 RBI) and Christiana Gable (.300/5 HR/26 RBI) rounding out the trio.
The Purple Aces are led at the plate by Danielle Freeman, who, despite having play a little more than half Evansville’s contest, comes in hitting at a .377 clip and a team-high eight home runs. She has driven in 17.
Evansville’s Amanda Blankenship (5-20, 6.19 ERA, 88 Ks) has been the workhorse for the Purple Aces this season.
