APSU SPORTS INFORMATION
Clarksville, Tn – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team lost a heartbreaker to IUPUI, 4-3, Tuesday, at the Governors Indoor Tennis Center.
The Govs (1-11) had already played the Jaguars (6-9) once this season, with that match finishing 5-2 in favor of the Jaguars.
IUPUI responded with a win at No. 2 doubles, but Timo Kiesslich and Chad Woodham put in a clutch performance to give the Govs a 1-0 advantage going into singles.
After the Jaguars evened the match up at one with a win at No. 2 singles, Ozelis showed why he was voted the Ohio Valley Conference’s second best player in the preseason, defeating Newis in straight sets at No. 1 doubles (6-4, 6-2).
However, IUPUI retook the lead with two wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Evan Bottorff took the first set of his match at No. 6 singles, but Drobysh fell in another three-set match at No. 3 doubles to clinch the match for IUPUI.
Bottorff did end up winning the second set to make the final score 4-3.
Austin Peay opens OVC play at home at 2:00pm, Friday, against Tennessee State.
