Murfreesboro, TN – At the second day of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional, the Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s tennis players Fabienne Schmidt and Danielle Morris advanced to the Doubles Main Draw quarterfinals, while Aleks Topalovic advanced to the semifinals in the Flight B Singles Draw, Friday, at the Adams Tennis Complex.
After winning twice on day one, including a win over the fifth-seeded pair, Schmidt and Morris kept things going on day two. The Governors duo knocked off a pair of Ohio Valley Conference foes, beating UT Martin’s Amelia Campbell and Daphne Pratt, 8-6.
In Flight B Singles action, Topalovic won two matches for the second straight day. In her first match, Topalovic bested Xavier’s Natalie Moyer, 7-6(4) 7-6(5). Topalovic kept things rolling in her second match, knocking off Southeast Missouri’s top-seeded Vivian Lai, 6-2 7-5.
Danielle Morris was the only APSU Governor remaining in the Main Singles Draw at the beginning of day two, but she fell in a hard fought match to Purdue’s fifth-seeded Ena Babic, 4-6 6-4 6-0.
In the Main Singles Draw consolation, Ana Albertson and Schmidt each won matches. Albertson beat Butler’s Emily Neal, 1-6 6-3 10-4, and Schmidt handedly beat Belmont’s Somer Henry, 6-0 6-4. Martina Paladini-Jennings dropped her consolation match, 6-7(2) 6-1 1-0(3).
The Governors will be back in action tomorrow at the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals, with three still remaining in the title hunt.
