Kennesaw, GA – A pair of solid rounds, headed by overall stellar play by senior Austin Lancaster, has the Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s golf right in the thick of things at the Pinetree Intercollegiate, hosted by Kennesaw State at Pinetree Country Club.
At 590 (296-294), the Govs are tied for seventh with Loyola Chicago; the Govs are a mere eight shots behind third-place Troy (583) and can overtake Western Kentucky (586), Jacksonville State (587) and Belmont (587) with a solid final round.
Lancaster’s opening-round 67 left him tied for the lead after Round One; while a second-round 75 dropped him from the top spot, he’s two-under par at 142 overall. The Hendersonville Tennessee native posted six birdies over the first 16 holes in Round One; his day was marked by success on par-5 holes (4.38 strokes per hole).
After a rough opening round 78, junior Chase Korte rallied with a 71 in round two, tying him for 24th with 18 holes to play. He’s tied for the tournament lead in par-3 scoring (2.63/hole); two of the 16 birdies posted on the par-3 No. 4 over the opening 36 holes belonged to Korte.
The rest of the lineup finished within three strokes of one another, with senior Michael Busse (76-74—150) leading the way in 30th. Freshman Tate Dickerson (75-76—151) is one shot behind Busse, with sophomore Micah Knisley (79-74—153) rounding out the lineup.
