Tennessee Department of Education releases 2019 TNReady Results

 

Tennessee Department of EducationNashville, TN –  The Tennessee Department of Education Commissioner Penny Schwinn has released the TNReady assessment results which indicates that students across the state are performing better in almost all math subjects. 

The TNReady scores also show that more than half the schools in Tennessee – 56 percent – improved their growth scores (TVAAS scores) from the previous year, with 41 percent of all schools earning a level 4 or 5 TVAAS rating which measures year-to-year growth.

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityJackson, TN – Junior utility man Logan Gray led a group of four Austin Peay State University baseball players named to the 2016 All-Ohio Valley Conference teams and recognized during Tuesday’s banquet preceding the OVC Baseball Championship.

Gray was the only Governors player to receive first-team recognition in a vote of league’s baseball coaches and sports information directors. Junior right fielder Chase Hamilton, junior starting pitcher Alex Robles and senior relief pitcher Jared Carkuff were each named to the league’s second team.

Savannah Amato selected APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Freshman pole vaulter Savannah Amato, of the Austin Peay State University track and field team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Amato took gold at the 2016 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships, hitting a career-best 4.04m (13’ 3”) for her first career OVC gold medal. The 10 points she contributed to Austin Peay’s team score proved crucial to the Governors third-place finish—the third consecutive top-three showing by Austin Peay at the OVC Outdoor Championships.

Chase Hamilton named APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Junior outfielder Chase Hamilton, of the Austin Peay State University baseball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Hamilton homered twice in the opening game of Austin Peay’s series against UT Martin, part of a 3-for-4, three-RBI outing that allowed the Govs to take Game 1, 8-3.

He followed that up with a 3-for-5 performance the following day after moving into the clean-up spot in the lineup.

Instant Peay Play: Solid start for APSU Lady Govs track team shows promise for upcoming year

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – For the past few years, Austin Peay State University’s women’s indoor and outdoor track and field team has been among the best in the Ohio Valley Conference and results of their season-opening indoor meet shows they should be primed to again be among the elite in the OVC.

The Lady Govs opened their indoor season on December 5th in Nashville, at the Vanderbilt Indoor Opener, finishing with five top-five finishes and 11 more top-10 results in 11 events, as Austin Peay and Vandy were joined by nine other teams – including OVC members Belmont, Murray State, Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech.

Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office reports working Smoke Alarm Saves Homeowners’ Lives in Arlington Fire

 

Tennessee State Fire MarshalNashville, TN – A smoke alarm installed through the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office “Get Alarmed Tennessee” smoke-alarm distribution program is credited with saving the lives of two people in Arlington, TN in the wake of a Wednesday house fire.

Floor mats kept too close to space heater ignited in a bathroom at the home at 11810 U.S. Highway 64 in Arlington on Wednesday and caused the blaze, which was extinguished by fire crews.

But a potentially tragic situation was avoided because the two homeowners who were asleep in the home at the time of the fire were awakened by their working smoke alarm and escaped the house unharmed. «Read the rest of this article»
