Arlington, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s golf team’s struggles with the short stick has it in seventh place heading to the final day of the EKU Colonel Classic, being played at the University Club at Arlington. The Lady Govs shot back-to-back rounds of 313 for a 626, leaving them 15 shots off the pace of host Eastern Kentucky (611).
The two-day, 54-hole event will conclude Saturday on the par-72, 5819-yard layout.
“It was a frustrating day,” APSU coach Sara Robson said. “We did not putt well—we had too many three putts—and we have to finish better the last three to four holes—we lost too many shots on the last few holes today in both rounds.”
Struggles on the green kept APSU from gaining the low scores they were seeking. Junior Morgan Kauffman led APSU on the day, shooting 79-75 for a 154 total—she is tied for eighth. Freshman Taylor Goodley shot a solid 75 in the morning but slipped some in the afternoon with an 81 for a 156. Senior Jessica Cathey is two shots back, shooting back-to-back 79s. Ashton Goodley was at 159 (80-79) while sophomore AnnaMichelle Moore was at 164 (84-80). Junior Amber Bosworth, playing as an individual, shot back-to-back 83s (166).
“Kauffman and Taylor (Goodley) each had a good round,” Robson said. “But as a team we struggled with our focus and consistency.
“We need to go out tomorrow and focus on the speed of our putts, which, hopefully, will allow us to make a few more. We also need to finish strong.”
