Nashville Venom win PIFL Championship 64-43 over Lehigh Valley Steelhawks

 

Nashville VenomNashville, TN – After stops in Huntsville, AL and Albany, GA, the PIFL Champions Cup officially has a new home in Nashville, Tennessee as the Nashville Venom (12-2) of the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) defeated the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (7-7) 64-43 to capture their first ever championship.

Nashville Sounds lose manager Darnell Coles to Detroit Tigers

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Darnell Coles, who had been announced as the Nashville Sounds’ 2014 manager last month, has accepted a position as the assistant hitting coach with the Detroit Tigers.

Coles had served as a minor league instructor in the Milwaukee Brewers system from 2010-13, including the past two years as manager at Double-A Huntsville.

Nashville Sounds welcome new manager, Darnell Coles

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds welcome Darnell Coles as the team’s field manager for the 2014 season, replacing two-year Sounds skipper Mike Guerrero, who was promoted to the Milwaukee Brewers’ coaching staff earlier this off season.

The 51-year-old Coles becomes the 25th manager in the Sounds’ 37-year franchise history and will be joined by a returning coaching staff. Coach Bob Skube, pitching coach Fred Dabney, trainer Aaron Hoback, and strength & conditioning specialist Andrew Emmick will all return for another season in Music City in 2014.

Xiamar Richards leads APSU Lady Govs Cross Country in Louisville

 

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSULouisville, KY – Led by senior Xiamar Richards’ third consecutive runner-up finish, Austin Peay State University women’s cross-country team finished fourth overall in the women’s five-kilometer blue race at Saturday’s Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic, hosted by Louisville at E.P. ‘Tom’ Sawyer State Park.

Nashville Sounds win finale against Round Rock 10-1

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Nashville Sounds’ Jimmy Nelson turned in an outstanding start and the Sounds belted three home runs in a 10-1 victory over the Round Rock Express on Wednesday evening at Greer Stadium in front of 9,104 fans in the finale of a three-game series.

With the victory, Nashville (31-56) secured its third winning series of the year. The 10 runs scored were the most for the Sounds since May 23rd and the club’s fifth double-digit output of the year.

Nashville Sounds School Fresno on Education Day 5-2

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds picked up a 5-2 win over the Fresno Grizzlies Wednesday morning at Greer Stadium, in front of a season-high 10,079 fans in attendance for the second of three Sounds Education Days.

Tied 2-2 in the seventh with runners on the corners and one out, shortstop Blake Davis, who was already two-for-two on the day, lofted a ball into left field for a sacrifice-fly to drive in the go-ahead run. With his single and triple earlier in the game, Davis improves his hit streak to seven games.

Nashville Sounds announce Roster for Opening Day

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds – the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers – have announced their tentative Opening Day 25-man roster, a group highlighted by the Brewers’ 2012 minor league player and pitcher of the year, nine returning players from the 2012 squad, and eight members of Milwaukee’s 40-man roster.

Well-decorated first baseman Hunter Morris advances to Nashville after an outstanding 2012 campaign at Double-A Huntsville, where he netted Southern League MVP honors, a minor league Gold Glove Award, and was named the Brewers’ Robin Yount Performance Award winner as the organization’s player of the year.
