101st Airborne Division “Rakkasan” nurse saves Afghan Soldier’s life

Kandahar Province, Afghanistan – A 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division nurse deployed in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel saved the life of an Afghan National Defense Security Force member Saturday.

Captain Christine Kampas, a medical adviser, saved the Afghan by conducting CPR on him after he went into respiratory failure while being transported from an Afghan medical facility to a NATO military medical facility at Kandahar Airfield.

Captain Christine Kampas, a nurse assigned to 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, deployed in support of Train, Advise and Assist Command - South, performed life-saving measures to resuscitate an Afghan Defense Security Forces member January 7th. Kampas is currently serving as a medical adviser to the Afghan National Defense Security Forces headquartered in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. (Captain Christine Kampas, 3rd Brigade Combat Team)

Fort Campbell’s 716th Military Police Battalion holds Peacekeeper Challenge to honor Fallen Warriors

Fort Campbell, KY – On August 27th, 2011, Spc. Michael C. Roberts died in combat in Kandahar province, Afghanistan. Only a week later, on September 3rd, Spc. Christopher J. Scott would also die in combat in Kandahar.

Both men were in their early 20s and each one gave all they had serving the nation during Operation Enduring Freedom. Both men were also part of the 716th Military Police Battalion, one of the most storied and highly decorated military police battalions in the U.S. Army.

Fort Campbell’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team Hones Skills for Springtime Deployment to Afghanistan

 

2nd Brigade Combat Team - StrikeFort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – All this week members of the Second Brigade Combat Team were out on the ranges of Fort Campbell honing the skills they will need for their upcoming deployment to Afghanistan. I was able to join them for a time on Thursday at Observation Point 12 (OP 12) where the soldiers of the Brigade were conducting a Fire Support Exercise that had started on Tuesday, and would run through Friday.

The exercise was training the brigade soldiers on how to combine different fire support assets in a combat situation including 80mm and 120mm mortars, 105mm artillery, along with Apache helicopters firing rockets and 30mm canons.

September Eagle Remembrance Ceremony

 

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – A remembrance ceremony honoring Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell, is scheduled for 4:00pm September 14th at the Family Resource Center.

Remembrance ceremonies are held to honor fallen Soldiers deployed in support of Operations New Dawn and Enduring Freedom and are held monthly, as needed.

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne Division159th Combat Aviation BrigadeFort Campbell, KY – The Department of Defense announced today the death of six Soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. They died May 26th, 2011 of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan.

They were assigned to Fox Company, (Pathfinder), 4th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, 159th Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, KY.

Small Arms fire kills 101st Airborne Division Soldier

 

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

United States Department of DefenseWashington, D.C. – Spc. Brandon M. Kirton, 25, of Centennial, CO, died May 18th, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire and mortar rounds.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, KY.

Regional Command SouthKandahar Province, Afghanistan – While visiting Regional Command South to see and hear what is operationally and strategically important, General David Petraeus made time to present multiple awards of valor, including the Silver Star, Bronze Stars for Valor, Army Commendation Medals for Valor, and Purple Hearts at Forward Operating Base Wilson.

He also handed out coins to engineers that worked on the Kandahar Power Bridging Solution.

International Security Assistance Force and TF Destiny are committed to working side by side with the people of Afghanistan to bring peace and prosperity to their country.

While the Pathfinders have a specific mission of recovering downed aircraft and personnel, they continue to assist coalition forces by providing security to the community surrounding KAF.
