Three Fort Campbell Soldiers killed in Afghanistan

Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan – The U.S. Department of Defense reports three Fort Campbell soldiers were killed in Afghanistan while supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

The Three U.S. soldiers were killed in eastern Afghanistan on Saturday, June 10th, 2017.

They died in Peka Valley, Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan, of gunshot wounds sustained in Peka Valley, Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan. The incident is under investigation.

Fort Campbell’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team holds ceremony naming Medical Clinic after fallen medic

Jalalabad, Afghanistan – Service members gathered in eastern Afghanistan September 17th, to celebrate the life of Cpl. John Dawson and honor his memory by dedicating a medical facility in his name.

The 1st Squadron, 33rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) hosted the ceremony, which was attended by leadership from 3rd BCT; Train, Advise, Assist, Command-East; and Resolute Support. The short event included a speech from Lt. Col. Jason Curl, commander of 1st Squadron, 33rd Cavalry Regiment “Men of War,” and an official unveiling of the plaque and sign for the Corporal John M. Dawson Medical Clinic.

Fort Campbell’s 1st Brigade Combat Team completes redeployment from Afghanistan

Fort Campbell, KY – The never ending cycling of soldiers between the battlefield to the home front and vise versa continued Wednesday evening with the return of the final flight of 259 soldiers from the 1st Brigade Combat Team (Bastogne).

For the past nine months the 1st Brigade Combat Team had been in the Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan as part of SFAAT Blackhorse which has been working to help prepare the Afghan National Army’s 1st Kandak, 4th brigade, 201st Corps for the upcoming transfer of authority as U. S. Forces prepare to withdraw from that country.

Fort Campbell’s SFAAT Archangel reports Afghan security forces winning local loyalty

Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan – “I’ve never seen somebody that people loved more: him walking down the street, and the crowds would gather around him, and they would listen to every single word he said,” said U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Charles Studer of his Afghan National Army counterpart. “They wanted to be Afghan, and they wanted to be proud of their country.”

Studer is a member of Security Forces Advisory and Assistance Team Archangel, 1st Squadron, 32nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division. SFAAT Archangel spent the last nine months working with the ANA’s 2nd Kandak, 4th Brigade, out of former Forward Operating Base Shinwar.

Fort Campbell’s 1st Brigade Combat Team helps Afghan National Security Forces safeguard Economy

Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan – The Highway 7 corridor running through eastern Nangarhar isn’t like any other in the province, maybe even the country.

Sure, the two- to-three-lane asphalt road doesn’t look like much. It winds through mountains and tree-lined villages and shoots across broad, arid spaces the same as any other paved road in the region.

What makes it special is the traffic that runs along it.

Fort Campbell SFAAT Blackhorse says Afghan National Army’s 1st Kandak is proficient, capable, ready to lead

Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan – Seven weeks ago, U.S. and Afghan National Security Forces worked together to clear enemy fighters from Hesarak, a remote district center in western Nangarhar Province.

That operation set several precedents: Afghan National Army and Air forces pooled their resources for a joint air assault; ANSF made their presence known in a little-patrolled area; and Afghans took the lead.

Fort Campbell Soldiers put Female Body Armor Prototypes through paces

Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan – Last summer, prototypes for new female body armor was distributed to select female 101st Airborne Division Soldiers at Fort Campbell, KY, for field-testing during an upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.

Gender-specific body armor has been, in many ways, a long time coming. Military clothing classically comes in two sizes: too big or too small. While this may be workable for garrison duty uniforms, it isn’t acceptable for protective gear.

Fort Campbell’s 1st Brigade Combat Team along with Afghan Border Police deliver Supplies to Local School

Jalalabad Airfield, Afghanistan – The Zone 1 Afghan Border Police along with 2nd Brigade Afghan National Civil Order Police delivered school supplies to hundreds of students as part of a community outreach mission, May 25th, at a school in western Jalalabad.

U.S. Army Soldiers with ABP Zone 1 Security Forces Advise and Assistance Team, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division assisted their Afghan National Security Forces counterparts by providing security and help hand out supplies.
