Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University held its Spring Commencement ceremonies, May 8th at the Dunn Center, with 43 Governors and Lady Govs athletes not only picking up their respective degrees, but also leaving a legacy of success during their time on campus.
The 42 graduating athletes represented 12 of 14 teams at Austin Peay, with only the women’s cross country and tennis teams not having any team member graduate this spring.

Clarksville, TN – A much different Austin Peay State University football team will kick off Year 2 of the Kirby Cannon Era when the Governors travel to West Tennessee to face Memphis in a 6:00pm, Saturday contest at the Liberty Bowl.
The Governors, coming off a 0-12 2013, enter the season with a roster makeover that has 39 freshman dotting the list, with 18 spots on the two-deep held by first-year players.
One play into the second half, junior safety Brad Wilmer suffered a significant leg injury. After realizing the seriousness of the injury, APSU head coach Kirby Cannon called off the scrimmage remainder.
“Our feeling with something like that is we should not even try to resume,” Cannon said. “When you have a horrific injury like that, where there is pain and an injury that is going to end a young man’s season, it is hard to refocus the team. You put them at danger.
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University was picked ninth in the Ohio Valley Conference at by a vote of the conference coaches and sports information directors announced Monday at the annual OVC Media Day.

Clarksville, TN – A little more than a year ago, Kirby Cannon was named Austin Peay State University’s head coach. Tuesday (1:30pm) will see Cannon and staff open their second spring practice.
Knoxville, TN – The curtain will rise on the Kirby Cannon Era, 5:00pm, Saturday, when Austin Peay State University plays Tennessee for the first time in program history.
Cannon, who was hired as Austin Peay’s 18th head coach in mid-March, is only the third APSU coach hired in the last 50 years that owned previous college-coaching head-coaching experience.

Clarksville, TN – For more than a decade, Austin Peay’s offensive line was the model of stability, a source of strength under Bill Schmitz, Carroll McCray and Rick Christophel.
However, longtime assistant Steve Haywood left after the 2010 season and his replacement Tyler Trent left after one season to pursue interests outside of football.
