Fourteen APSU student-athletes participate in December Commencement

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Thirteen Austin Peay State University athletics alumni and student-athletes were scheduled to participate in Winter Commencement ceremonies, Friday, at the Dunn Center.

Lady Govs golf team earns OVC Team Academic Achievement Award for third straight year

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For a third straight year, Austin Peay State University women’s golf team has been saluted with the Ohio Valley Conference Team Academic Achievement Award.

The award is presented annually in each Conference-sponsored sport to the member institution’s team with the greatest percentage of its eligible student-athletes who achieved a 3.25 grade-point average or higher—OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.  The Lady Govs golf team had seven of its student-athletes earn such distinction. As a team the Lady Govs golfers posted a 3.738 grade-point average in the fall and 3.640 in the spring. «Read the rest of this article»

Lady Govs close season with 4-3 loss to SIUE

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay’s softball team lost its final Ohio Valley Conference game of the 2011 season Sunday afternoon at Cheryl Holt Field 4-3 against Southern Illinois Edwardsville.

For Austin Peay (12-40, 7-23 OVC) the loss marked the 10th one-or-two run loss for the Lady Govs this season – including five coming in conference play.

Lady Govs host SIUE to close out 2011 softball slate

 

APSU Women’s Softball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will close out its 2011 schedule this weekend by playing host to the Ohio Valley Conference’s newest member, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, for a three-game series at Cheryl Holt Field.

The series opens with a, 1:00pm, Saturday doubleheader and concludes Sunday with a 1:00pm, single game.

Lady Govs miss early chances in loss to Tennessee Tech

Austin Peay State University GovernorsCookeville, TN – Austin Peay’s softball team couldn’t come up with the big hit when it needed it Sunday afternoon, in its Ohio Valley Conference series finale against Tennessee Tech, as the Lady Govs fell to the Golden Eagles, 3-0.

Despite being limited to three hits, the Lady Govs (11-38, 6-21 OVC) left five runners on base – including three in scoring position – and trailing only 1-0 for most of the contest.

Lady Govs swept by Golden Eagles

Austin Peay State University GovernorsCookeville, TN – Austin Peay’s softball team gave up two four-run first innings to Tennessee Tech on Saturday afternoon on its way to being swept by the Golden Eagles by scores of 8-2 and 8-0.

In Game 1, Lady Govs (11-37, 6-20 OVC) sophomore starting pitcher Morgan Brewer gave up four hits – plus hit a batter – in the key opening inning, but two of the hits were tainted at best.

Holt, Harris earn Legends Awards; Doyle, Terry named Most Outstanding Athletes

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Two senior athletes who authored record-setting careers have been named the 2010-11 Legends Award recipients.

And two underclass athletes who led their respective programs into the postseason have been named Most Outstanding Athletes. The recipients of Austin Peay State University’s most cherished athletic awards along with the individual team honors were made Monday night at APSU’s annual Athletics banquet, held in Dave Aaron Arena.

Lady Govs drop series finale to Panthers

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay’s softball team gave up two big innings to Ohio Valley Conference leader Eastern Illinois, Saturday at Cheryl Holt Field, to lose the rubber-game of its Ohio Valley Conference series to the Panthers, 11-2.

Eastern Illinois (34-9, 21-3 OVC) broke the game open with a five-run third inning, as Reynae Hutchinson and Morgan Biel both doubled and drove in two runs each in the inning.

Brewer, Lady Govs lose extra-inning heartbreaker to JSU

Austin Peay State University GovernorsJacksonville, AL – Austin Peay’s softball team got a huge pitching performance from Morgan Brewer Sunday afternoon, in the finale of the three-game Ohio Valley Conference series against Jacksonville State, but in the end it wasn’t enough; as the Lady Govs fell to the Gamecocks in nine innings, 1-0.

Brewer, a sophomore, limited Jacksonville State (31-11, 16-3 OVC) to five hits (all singles) and three walks in her eight-plus innings of work stranding 10 Gamecock runners on base – including runners at second and third in the fourth inning, third base in the fifth and bases loaded in the sixth.

Lady Govs come up short against Gamecocks

Austin Peay State University GovernorsJacksonville, AL – A couple of miscues against Jacksonville State left the Austin Peay softball team on the short end of two Ohio Valley Conference outcomes Saturday afternoon at University Field, as the Lady Govs were swept by the Gamecocks, 5-2 and 5-0.

In Game 1, Austin Peay (10-32, 5-15 OVC) was trailing 2-1, with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, when JSU’s Abbey Stepp reached on an error by Lady Govs senior second baseman Randal Davenport.
