Austin Peay State University’s Phi Alpha Theta wins eighth Best Chapter Award

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – While much of America focused on each word said during the recent first presidential debate, something else was gnawing at the back of the mind of Austin Peay State University professor of history, Dr. Minoa Uffelman.

For the last seven years, the University’s Phi Alpha Theta National Honor Society (PAT), which Uffelman advises, has been recognized each fall with the national Best Chapter Award, but September was drawing to a close without word on a possible eighth consecutive award.

APSU to host Free Photo Shoot by Professional Photographers for Military-Affiliated Individuals, Families

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On June 15th, a group of professional university photographers will take over the Austin Peay State University Red Barn and convert the building’s old basketball court into a temporary photo studio.

From 2:00pm-5:00pm that afternoon, these photographers—known for creating official and iconic images for institutions across the country like the University of Wisconsin, Baylor University and Wake Forest University —will take free portraits of any local individual with a direct military connection—including active duty soldiers, veterans and their families.

Austin Peay State University’s Victor Felts presented with SEIFC’s highest honor

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Victor Felts, director of Student Life and Engagement at Austin Peay State University, was presented with the Dr. Karlem Riess Award during this month’s Southeastern Interfaternity Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Dr. Karlem Riess Award is the highest honor bestowed to an individual by the Southeastern Interfraternity Conference.

Austin Peay State University - APSU - logoClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Trahern Gallery, with support from the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts and the APSU Department of Art and Design, is bringing “Traces: A Fragrant Installation,” by Stephen Watson, to Clarksville this autumn.

The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, is now open and runs through November 18th.

Overall win-loss records are important, without a question, but it’s the OVC games that mean more than the pre-season with berths into the postseason keyed on those contests.

Despite coming away on the wrong side of a 2-0 decision, the Lady Govs showed poise and toughness against an experienced Rebel squad picked to finish ninth in the Southeastern Conference preseason coaches poll.

Bill Goodman speaks at the 106th Annual Lone Oak Picnic

 

Election 2014Cunningham, TN – Bill Goodman, candidate for Circuit Court Judge Part II addressed the audience at the 106th Annual Lone Oak Picnic held by the Central Civitan Club on Saturday, July 27th, 2014.

“Thank each of you for spending part of you day here today,” said Goodman. “I lived in this district my entire life. I grew up in Cedar Hill which is located between Springfield and Guthrie. I intended law school in the state of Alabama at Samford University. It was there that I met my wife. We returned back to this community in 1977. This has been our home since that time.”

Clarksville Civil War RoundtableClarksville, TN – The next meeting of the Clarksville (TN) Civil War Roundtable will be on Wednesday, February 19th, 2014 at the Bone & Joint Center, 980 Professional Park Drive, right across the street from Gateway Hospital. This is just off Dunlop Lane and Holiday Drive and only a few minutes east of Governor’s Square mall.

The meeting begins at 7:00pm and is always open to the public. Members please bring a friend or two – new recruits are always welcomed.
