APSU Football alumni Bonnie Sloan named Top 50 all-time great from Nashville

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University Athletics Hall of Fame member Bonnie Sloan was named one of Nashville’s 50 greatest high school football players by the Tennessean.

Sloan, who played at Austin Peay from 1969-72, is the 12th leading tackler all-time for the Governors, with 323 career stops. He recorded 100 tackles as a junior, and followed that up with a 124-tackle effort as a senior. He received All-Ohio Valley Conference honors in his final two seasons in Clarksville.

The Sounds welcome the Memphis Redbirds, the Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, for a four-game series.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds Baseball Club returns to First Tennessee Park for an eight-game homestand on Friday, May 4th, 2018.

The Nashville Sounds welcome the Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, the Memphis Redbirds, for a four-game series from May 4th-7th. Following the Redbirds, the Sounds welcome the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, for a four-game set from May 8th-11th.

APSU students perform service work before semester

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – As part of the Global Engage partnership between the Austin Peay State University Center for Service-Learning & Community Engagement, the APSU Learning Opportunities Office, and the APSU Study Abroad Office, 13 students and three staff members participated in a service trip to St. Louis, Missouri, last month.

Nashville Sounds release Home Schedule for 2018

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds Baseball Club announced its 2018 home schedule at First Tennessee Park, in conjunction with the Pacific Coast League today.

The fourth season at state-of-the-art First Tennessee Park begins on Tuesday, April 10th when the Sounds host the Iowa Cubs – the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. Opening Night against the Cubs is the start of a seven-game homestand that also brings the Omaha Storm Chasers – the Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals to town.

First Tennessee Park plays host to 11 different homestands to make up the 70-game 2018 home schedule.

Nashville Sounds return to First Tennessee Park for Three Games, Friday

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds Baseball Club returns home Friday, July 7th, 2017 to begin a three-game homestand with the American Southern Division rival Memphis Redbirds – the Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.

After the three-game series, the Sounds head into the three-day All-Star break, followed by a three-city, 12-game road trip and do not return to First Tennessee Park until Tuesday, July 25th, 2017.

Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett Endorses Randy Boyd for Governor

 

Randy Boyd for GovernorClarksville, TN – Randy Boyd has announced that Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett has endorsed and is working in support of his Republican campaign for Governor. Mayor Durrett is the first County Mayor from Middle Tennessee to endorse Boyd. He joins nearly two dozen East Tennessee County Mayors who endorsed Boyd last month.

“As Commissioner of Economic and Community Development, there were no better local partners than those in Clarksville and Montgomery County,” Boyd said. “And their success is a direct result of their great team and strong leadership, starting with Mayor Jim Durrett. I am honored to have his help and support in my campaign for Governor.”

Nashville Sounds Brad LaRosa named PCL Trainer of the Year

 

Pacific Coast League - PCLRound Rock, TX – The Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) has selected Nashville Sounds’ Brad LaRosa the 2016 PCL Trainer of the Year.

The award is given annually to one member of each of the 16 Leagues in Minor League Baseball, as well as the Dominican Summer League, in a selection by their peers. As the PCL winner, LaRosa is now eligible for the Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year award, which is voted upon by full membership of the PBATS and announced at the 2016 Major League Baseball Winter Meetings in Washington, D.C.

Memphis Redbirds beat Nashville Sounds 4-3 at First Tennessee Park

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Memphis Redbirds used a nine-strikeout performance from starter Alex Reyes on their way to a 4-3 win over the Nashville Sounds in front of 5,369 fans at First Tennessee Park Monday night.

Reyes’ solid outing started early as he struck out the side in the first inning. The top prospect in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, according to Baseball America, allowed one run on two hits in his second win of the season.

While Reyes was keeping the Sounds off the bases, Jesse Hahn was struggling to find the strike zone for Nashville.
